out by car following their marriage in waterloo the date was march 28 1927 on saturday mr and mrs byer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary the at home was held next door the residence of a brother lloyd many people attended some from a distance walter byer is a life long resident son of j l and emma byer he attended public school at dicksons hiu but left at an early age to assist his father in the honey business while attending a mennonite bible school in kitchener he met mildred snider daughter of edgar and luella snider of waterloo they were later married by bishop jonas snider her grandfather and minister at erb street mennonite church in water loo the byer family name has been synonymous with the honey industry and walter helped maintain that connection over a period of 57 years only recently he sold out his interest to his brother lloyd but still helps out when needed in 1939 they moved into their new home on the west side of hwy 48 walter keeps busy cultivating an excellent garden in the winter he gains a great deal of pleasure out of feeding the birds mildred enjoys sewing they are members of the wideman mennonite church and attend service there regularly walter has three brothers lloyd and edwin rr 2 markhajn and lome of scottdale pennsylvania also three sisters mary mrs harmon jones stouff- ville annie mrs russell grove markham and grace mrs jean avis of windsor mildred has one sister mabel of waterloo and one brother sanford of turner michigan paper drive the boy scouts paper drive will be held on saturday may 13 everyone is reminded to start byanneloney a life long resident of claremont passed on while vacationing wednesday march 15 1978 no one in the village was better known or better liked than william r evans and no one will be missed more than bill or will as he was called by his friends will evans was born on a farm east of claremont the son of thomas morgan evans and mary elizabeth hannah jane linton he and aldine ward were married in claremont united church on may 11 1932 with the rev maclennah officiating when he was a youngdundas boy he played soccer and fourteen hockey and in later years was an expert and ardent bowler he kept his in terest in sports until his death he was a member of the claremont band for many years and was also a member of the village volunteer fire depart ment only recently was he given a thirtyfive year medallion and was presented with a citation for his long and faithful service he served as clerk of the session in the united church and a member of the board of stewards for over 40 years he was a master plumber for pickering township for 30 years and farmed for u years surviving is his wife aldine three sons blair glen and dean all of claremont two daughters bruy mrs terry
