211 linda blacktop 254 dear sir i have just finished reading the sports paee of this weeks edition of the paper and find it to be most imcomplete i would like to think that the following request is on behalf of several hundred hockey players coaches and managers who contribute their time and energy at the local arena many many parents have been heard to say that young johnny whose parents pay taxes which contribute to the functioning of the arena monies to draws and registration fees to the wsmha should expect that when he performs well on the ice could see his name in the local paper as a reward for the effort put forth by himself and his parents knowing many of the gentlemen on the executive of the wsmha and the knowledge and effort that they put out i am sure that with the aid of your personnel at the tribune a much improved coverage of young johnny can be obtained on behalf of all the players and coaches involved in minor hockey i would thank you for your efforts and your improved efforts of the future maurice hamilton parent and coach editors note we dont entirely agree with mr hamilton and feel that we try our best to get in as many young johnnys as we can it is impossible to cover every hockey game so we have to rely on the coaches to get in the game results we also feel that so far the coaches and managers have been doing a good job getting in the reports and as long as they do we will be putting in the young johnnys more power skating underwood broadloom pre christmas gs inventor clearance at our markham store- style loop supplier size price due to barrie la 5 isittrue id now have to work longer to collect unemployment insurance yes parliament has decided that the qualification time should be fonger everywhere and that people who live in areas of high unemployment should be given certain advantages over those who live in areas where jobs are more plentiful which means that you now need more insurable work weeks to qualify for unemployment insurance benefits i can see why but just how long would i have to work to be eligible from 10 to 14 weeks depending on where you live in regions of low unemployment claimants need up to 14 weeks of insurable employment to get ui benefits this will only happen in places where its easier to get and keep a job in regions of high unemployment claimants now need as little as 10 weeks to qualify does this mean id get less or that the payments wouldnt last as long no change in payment amounts the ui benefit rate stays at twothirds of your average weekly insurable earnings the maximum is s147 less tax the maximum time for which anyone may receive benefits has changed slighdy however the old maximum was ol weeks now its 50 weeks but since september 11 the total number of weeks for which a claimant qualifies has more closely reflected the unemployment rate in his or her region right now we measure unemployment by dividing canada into 16 economic regions later in 1978 we will finetune the program to 54 regions so that ui will be even more closely related to local labour market conditions what else is changing about in not much the basic two week waiting period remains the same everywhere and so do the rules on the waiting period when a claimant has left his or her job for no good reason or been fired for misconduct in such cases a claimant may have to wait up to eight weeks from when employment ends until benefits start then theres maternity sickness and age 65 benefits previously sickness benefits were only payable during the first 39 weeks of the claim now theyre payable at any time during the entire benefit period maternity benefits of 15 weeks and the special onetime benefit equal to three weeks benefits at age 65 remain the same the same people still pay for the program in the same proportions and the types of employ ment insurable for ui remain the same too would i still go to the same ui office to claim as explained in the box below you still go to the familiar locations for both ui offices and canada manpower centres watch for changes in your area unemployment insurance has changed for everyones benefit including yours all we ask is that you remember your obligations as well as your rights if the need should ever arise for you to come to us well make sure you get all the ui benefits to which you are entided by law but you must keep up the search for a new job all the time youre getting those benefits the unemployment insurance cononission and tlie department of manpower and imnngration have become the canada ibnploymenl and immigration commission for a time youll still see our local offices identified as unemployment insurance offices or canada manpower centres when theyre together in one location theyll he colled canada employment centres working with people who want to work employment and immigration canada budculten minister emploiet immigration canada budcullen mimstre
