out of business at goodwood lewis b steckley 94 died friday afternoon at memorial hospital after a lengthy illness a retired missionary of the brethren in christ church steckley was born jan 31 1883 near stouffville ontario in canada he was the son of peter and sarah steckley mr steckley worked on his fathers farm until 1906 at which time he came to brown county kansas in 1909 he returned to canada and entered bible college to prepare himself for mission work in june of 1911 he was sent to south africa while on furlough in abilene in 1916 he met and married elizabeth engle she was also a missionary on furlough he and his wife spent three terms serving in rhodesia and zambia the steckleys retired in 1942 and returned to abilene where his wife preceded him in death in august of 1956 he was later married to sadie witter in may of 1958 following his retirement in abilene mr steckley worked at various jobs he was a service station em ployee and did janitorial work in the church and nursing home mr steckley was a member of the abilene brethren in christ church survivors are his wife of the midamerica nursing center four brothers henry of toronto ontario landon of welland ontario jesse of richmond hill ontario and peter v of stouffville ontario three sisters mrs maggie swalm dun- troon ontario mrs cora cloke wainfleet ontario and mrs rhoda abetter of stayner ontario nieces chester brumwell and his family were scarboro pioneers he was 90 during his lifetime mr brumwell lived at stouffville and roblin manitoba he was identified with the united church in 1912 he married velma grace burnett his wife predeceased him in december 1971 surviving are four sons melvin of haines jet yukoo eugene of robun manitoba hilton of rainy river grant in toronto two daughters marion mrs howard hagerman of markham marguerite mrs harold breen in winnipeg twelve grandchildren and seven great grand children one son roy is buried in france church services everybody knows kids cant get
