won in two wheelchair races and two swimming events she is hoping to enter in the next world olympics for the handicapped claremont girl breaks reeords fifteen year old connie macaioney of claremont won three gold medals and one silver breaking two ontario records in a recent track and field meet in brantford on tario that in itself is a magnificent feat but there is something very special about connie she is in a wheelchair and has been most of her life but that hasnt held connie back from participating in most of the activities that any young girl her age enjoys doing she won a silver medal in the 60 metre wheelchair race gold in the 400 metre race and in the swimming events she broke the two records the first was a 65 metre freestyle in which she was timed at 208 and champion iqw golfer dorothy aikman of stouffvilles sleepy hollow golf course shot a fiveoverpar 77 last week at maple down to capture the lowgross honors in the scarborough district junior girls golf tour nament miss aikman won by four shots over former ontario junior champion stacey west of bayview both girls finished ahead of york district cham pion cindy vining of toronto ladies golf club miss vining playedto her 12 handicap finishing with a gross total of 84 york divisions low net award went to patty cope of weston a 25- handicapper who finished with a net score of 75 york divisions low net award went to had been training for about two months for the wheelchair races with weight lifting and on the track at holy trinity school in toronto she has been swimming for a number of years and was a member of the scar borough dolphins connie is hoping that by 1980 she will be good enough to enter in the world olympics the other activities at the meet were baseball wrestling archery rifle shooting tennis basketball weight lifting and shot put etc there were seven other entries from connies school and anestimated two to three hundred entries altogether connie is attending bloorview childrens hospital which is ac tually more like a boarding school the school accommodates children from kin dergarten up to grade 9 and then there is what they call secondary school which is simply any furthering of the students education that he or she wishes connie is especially pleased with the pool at the school which is 10 metresthis is where she does most of her prac ticing connie will be attending wood eden camp for the physically handicapped for three weeks and then her aunt will be visiting on august 25 from australia most weekends will be spent doing things with the school they dont get away from it for the whole summer as some kids do said mrs macaioney may midgets eqme up short in last weeks midget softball tournament held in stouffville the ken may squad played some strong ball but fell just a little short in their quest for the championship the may team started off strong in their first game last friday night and came away with a close 65 decision over oshawa the game which went nine innings saw catcher rob mcbeth emerge as the hero when he clouted the game- winning home run in the top of the ninth inning he also picked up a triple which set the stage for stouffvilles win however the next game did hot go as well as stouffville played aimsbury and came away on the short end of a 42 decision it was a well fought close game that could have gone either way but unfortunately knocked stouffville out of further tournament play following their win over stouffville the aimsbury squad went to the championship final against the very strong team from napanee and lost to napanee 20 in the consolation championship game oshawa beat baden 53 in other baseball action the towns bantam girls also came up short in the recently held bantam tournament the team from cobourg took the championship with caning place winning the consolation cham pionship the next softball tournament will be held friday july 8 and saturday july 9 and will feature the midget girls from stouffville and eight other surrounding towns matiy tie games in soccer action in whitchurch- stouffville minor soccer league action last week both b division squirt teams played to tie games at home the stouffville terriers and aurora dmr sports played to a 0- odraw the other game saw the whitchurch roadrunners and aurora duwall building centre come away with a 22 tie greg kenney and kirk arends had the roadrunner goals in the only atom game the stouffville ballcats came from behind to edge out the aurora fruit market team 54 market alexander lead the ballcats drive with three goals and stephen boyle
