the tribune thursday december 30 lfc house leagne hockey credit union clduts by barb cooper k stouffville sunday night in the junior division of the girls house league the stouffville credit union clouted gormley greenhouses 7- 3v jolynn ayotte was thebiggun as she netted 6 goals jul watson tallied her first marker of the season assists went to bonnie hollingsworth 2 donna bangay2 brenda lehman 2 for greenhouses the goal getters were cheryl brown 2 and vickey macdonald assists were credited to teresa ewing and cheryl brovm in another game the stouffville lions shut out the stouffville kinsmen 1- 0 in an endurance game both teams played shorthanded the lions had only seven players and the kinsmen nine jackie armet carried the puck out of her own endzooe on a breakaway and scored the winning marker of the game j kelly rexgraham playing in the nets for the first time racked up the shutout tammy peterson also did an excellent job in the net for the kinsmen in the senior division the stouffville iga overpowered the sales barns 113 both teams were shorthanded but sales barns six players were outnumbered by igas nine despite this sales barns never gave up hope and played gamely iga goals were scored by cheryl singleton 4 heather dunkeld hattrick and nancy wilson- assists went to heather dunkeld 2 debbie coxworth 2 and carol and jane clarke m when the fool gyes through the full cycle of stridingon skates and developing power the tendons on the top uork up and down and the achilles tendon that runs up the back of the fool 5 from the heel works in and oul too many people restrict the movement of these important tendons when lacing their skates because they draw ihe too tightly from the bottom eyelets right to the top of the boot i have already mentioned one result of lacing too tightly cold feet under normaiskating conditions i dont think its possible for a boy with properly laced bootsuo gel cold feel buti when the blood circulation is restricted or stopped the result is inevitable asize3 boys skale mayhave nine eyelets the bottom three are over the ball of the boot the next three are over the arch and the tendons on top of the foot the lop ihree eyelets are in jfrom of the ankle the number may vary somewhat depending on- the sue and brand of skate but whatever the number break them down into these three categories the eyelets over the ball of the foot just behind the toes that looking from the side over run almost parallel to the ground the eyelets pver the front curve of the ankle that when a tightened exert pressure on the itrchandthe front tendons of the fool the eyelets at the lop of the skate boot in the ankle area lace the skates in the crosslace imanner in which you lace your shoes avoid loop i placing with cross lacirigthe laces slip to adjust jii motion keeping the- pressure equal at each eyelet for additional information read my book howie meeker hockey basics i the laces through the bottom set of eyelets over the ball of the fool should be pulled with a moderate tension so they are snug- the only thing you can accomplish by pulling them lightly is cutting off the blood circulation the nexlorl middle set of eyelets are very important too much pressure here interferes with the movement of those vital tendons on the from of the fool and can actually inhibit loot movement j t whileskatjngv pressure that is strong enough to squeeze the tendons vih also restrict the blood supply and i also affect the arch of the foot luckily the arch has a warning signal that makes itself felt in the form ofpainson theinside of the foot the- eyeletsover the icndonsand arch must be laced loosely the top set of eyelets are crucial these must be pulled tightly drawing the foot firmly into the parfof the- boot that provides all the support the boots grasp in this area is what makes he skate ahexlcnsion of the shinbonc enabling the skaterv to balance the perform other drills without difficulty the top set of eyelets must be pulled tightly but again tightly is a relative term t a pair of skates with rock hard ankle support will need onlya medium degree of tightness but once a skates counter goes soft no amount of eye popping pressure will restore support at this point whilelacing and tightening the last eyelets there are two major mistakes made skipping the top eyelet i shudder evcrylime i vseo it because the last eyelet is the most important one kilher through laziness or because its tucked up under the shin pad overhang tod many boys do not bother with the top eyelet yet that is the 1 key point to which all the leather isdrawn to give complete support dont let any skater miss the last eyelet wrapping extra lengths of lace around the ankle or down under the arch of the skate by now i should not have to tell you what happens when the lace is tiedaround the ankleor arch kiglu never but never lie a lacearound the top of the skale or down under il its a bad habit that must be broken extra lengths of ijcc v should be tied in a double or triple bow at the op eyolol where hey belong and when ivingthe 1 first bow- loop the lace twice before forming he actual bow to prevent slippage for the sales barns katby mcbeth tallied two goals one assist vicki macdonald one goal one assist and diane ermen one assist i c between stacey tractor parts and l m gardens was hilarious as the two teams ribbed each other back and forth the fans enjoyed the witty repartee and got right into the spirit and kidded the players everyone enjoyed the fun as well as seeing a good game of hockey l m gardens opened the scoring when sandy hardy rapped in a pass from judy sackfield julie parish tied the game assisted by lynn roberts then on a three man rush marie drewery connected on passes from lynn roberts and judy ermen togivestaceysa2l lead judy sackfield tied it up with a sizzling drive from the side and then set up shelley godden for what looked like the winner however with less than a minute to go stacey s pulled the goalie and julie parish soloed on a powerplay goal ending the game 33 on- sunday jan 2 the girls start their round t robin playoffs gormley greenhouses will meet the stouffville as previously stated mr joe hulshof was teds best man clippers in third spot by pete sanderson may clippers in third place the ken may cup pers three game whining streak ended last thursday- night as the firedup port hope panthers dumped the clippers 62 to move within one point of first place bowmanville in the central ontario junior c league standings the may squad now 1291 beat the port perry flamingoes 63 last tuesday to gain sole possession of third place two points up on port perry and eleven points behind port hope the clippers have three remaining games with bowmanville and two with port hope so their work is cut out for them if they hope to secure second spot the port perry contest was a fast freewheeling affair that just about didnt materialize the designated officials failed to arrive so three local omha referees did the game ramsay mellor dave bowne and john brunke -often- criticized for their minor hockey work did an excellent job in thecontest by far the best job of junior c of ficiating seen here this season only thirty minutes in penalties were handed out by referee mellor nineteen of those to the clippers at no time did the game appear to be getting out of control near the end ox the first frame the second period belonged entirely to the may squad more specifically to speedy brown and winger bui meakes brown scored goals two and three to give the clippers the lead then meakes with a minute left in the period scored goals four and five just 21 seconds apart and the clippers went to the dressing room leading 52 the final frame saw port perrys lou sinclair and clipper kevin barrick round out the scoring but it also em phasized the recent outstanding play of four dippers goalie jack holder was sensational in stopping 39 of the 42 shots he faced time and time again he came up with spectaculav saves on certain port perry goals forward turned defenceman craig waite once again sparkled defensively centre doug taylor turned in his usual solid performance setting brown up on two of his three goals and winning all but tv0pf the faceoffs he look and finally theres perry brown it seems more and morcapparent that as brown goes so gothe clipped in the last three contests the diminutive winger has worked v hard and skated so fast and far that the rest of the may club cant help but be inspired by his tireless efforts last week however quite a turnaround from eyen young brown r the previous encounter in couldnt get untracked as port perry i the flamingos gord scott and dave iwebster shot port perry quickly into a first period lead but clipper perry brown narrowed the gap to one theclippers met a fired- up port hope squad first placewas oh the line as the panthers needed a win to movewithinone of bowmanville and win they intended to do from the opening whistle they beat the clippers in every department outhustfing them to a 40 first period lead doug taylor got one back for the clippers early- in the second frame but the panthers notched two more later in the period ted assinck scored early in the third period to bring the clippers to life but the may squad could not narrow the fourgoal gap and the game ended at 6- 2 the clippers now remain idle until sunday january 2 when they travel to frankfordfbr an 830 pm contest tuesday january 4 at 8 pm the clippers return home to face off against bowmanville in what should prove to be one of the best games of the season the may club remains at home to face cobourg on saturday january 8 at 8 pm on saturday february 12 captain ted assinck leads his clipper
