region the 25yearold honors graduate of the anna marie says take advantage of this dinner coupon dinner prices from 345 university of waterloos recreation program mr crosby is the regions first community schools coordinator its a role thats not just new but one foi which longterm financing has yet to be committed in providing initial funding for the project the ministry of education has approved 8300 until september an additional 4230 has been approved in principle for the final four months of 1976 theres been no commitment for 1977 although the regional community schools committee is hopeful of funding for a total of at least two years the new community school coordinator was asked about the funding during an interview at his crosby heights sr public school office here friday it will definitely be an issue i have to deal with but i dont see it as a problem mr crosby replied definitely im optimistic there would be some sort of arrangement to continue the project to me it would be a challenge in my personal life formerly community schools coordinator for the wellington county board of education in guelph be expressed few doubts about moving from the post he held for a year despite the economic restraints facing governments at all levels to me its a challenging change he explained i think the projects good for me and im good for the project the project is a two fold one coordinating community schools at a regional level and facilitating establishment of a specific project in a threeschool area of rich mond hill gary adamson the public school trustee chairing the regional community schools committee explained funds allocated for two parttime people were combined to justify hiring of the fulltime person the majority of the funds approved until september are for the crosby heights project necessitating scheduling twothirds of mr crosbys time to the richmond hill program school board funding of a program at lake wilcox public school and ministry- approval in principle for a com munity school concept in newmarket commits the coordinator to two ad ditional projects involvement beyond that point could only come as a result of a decision by the board mr crosby stressed the thing i have to be careful of i think is that the community school concept is really blossoming he ex plained i have to be careful how thin i spread myself out i have definite commitments first and i would definitely have to have board permission to go into another area to work in his first week on the job 10hour days were not unusual for the new community schools co ordinator the 8 am to 6 pm days with additional hours for frequent night meetings will remain enjoyable as long as the job remains rewarding mr crosby said the rewards will vary as much as the community school con cept differs from school to school the community itself is going to deter mine what it needs the coordinator explained right now were going on a predetermined notion this community schools is what the public wants once informing the public of the potential in the facilities the actual use and philosophy of the school will be determined by the people added mr crosby we have to inform the public then let the impetus come from them he said theres support behind us but community schools may not be warranted in some areas there will be no attempt to force a community school into an area where it is neither required nor wanted the coordinator said if we lay it on i dont think it will last he explained even in areas where the program is warranted citing exact community needs could prove difficult mr crosby noted community schools coordinator bob crosby at his office in richmond hill the university of waterloo honors recreation graduate becomes the first
