reference to mr carters reply to my reply re seat belts i would like to make the following comments during a rather lengthy telephone con versation with mr carter i brought out the point that there are two aspects involved here 1 the compulsory seat belt legislation 2 the question of whether or not seat belts save lives i also stated that our program at christ church will deal with number 2 and is intended to present facts and figures which we hope will convince people that seat belts will save lives we do not intend to get into a political argument re the legislation as the gen tleman we have coming is a civil servant and not one from the legislature i invited mr carter and his friends to come listen and discuss the facts to use or not to use seat belts in order that we might convince them it is to their ad vantage to buckle up regardless of whether they are in favour of the law or not i would like to make the following point clear that there will not be anyone at this meeting to accept mr carters petitions as we intend to present only the seat belt question as opposed to the compulsory legislation bill nailer hawthorn ave high cost criticized dear sir according to federal russian hockey teams is licking its wounds not to mention its pride as a result of the humiliating defeat dished out to them by the buffalo sabres doubtless many unhappy visions will dance before their eyes as they recall their hum bling encounter with this team russian pride does not accept defeat or failure lightly i expect desperate effort will be made to regain lost prestige while hundreds of millions of people will be talking about this game the funny thing is it really isnt that important at all it wont change too much on earth and heaven is unimpressed about the only record in heaven will be the descration of the lords day for pleasure instead of worship let us follow one person from this game into eternity here stands a fan before the judgement bar of god the question is asked what did you do with my son the lord jesus christ while you were on earth did you accept him as your personal saviour or did you reject him could one even imagine this person saying well lord i watched the buffalo sabres beat the russians i shouted gave tbem a standing ovation and threw my hat into the air i think not so many things considered important on earth are fleeting perishing and dissolving without enduring value how many news repor ters- would even write about the numbers of sinners that repent of their sins and are cleansed by the blood of christ yet jesus said the angels of god and heaven rejoices over even one sinner that repents of his sins how sincere then can we pray thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven parkview news ken wallace wellknown canadian gospel with some aspects of durham regions budget i ina recent interview dr puterbough told the tribune the region has developed too far too fast and somewhere it has to be looked at and chopped down to size uxbridge is the only one of the municipalities pursuing its regional assessment in the courts protesting that too much oshawa assessment was disallowed the mayor said uxbridge gained a reputation as a scrappy municipality in another case last year fighting for the right to regulate gravel pits within the municipality all the way to the supreme court of icanada and winning as a result of the case uxbridge is now represented on a com mittee to study the whole aggregate industry across the province dr puterbough said in other comments on the past year the mayor said he was pleased that local administration costs for the township are looking very very good they will be well below budget estimates he attributed part of the drop in costs to the efficiency gained from moving into a new municipal office building on bascom st in march another major change involved in- ternal organization dr puterbough said it has changed radically and was certainly necessary looking forward to the future dr puter bough said he wanted to see some growth in the township he said that they had gotten the draft of the regional official plan changed to the point that it now reflects the feeling of this council and allows some growth another major local issue is a sewage disposal plant in the works the ability of the township to raise the necessary funds for building it dr puterbough said largely depends on the size of tax increases by the board of education on the regional assessment the mayor said uxbridges lawyers had found proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that the township is being i assessed too high were the only ones who have decided the hell to this were being overcharged he said j the mayor added that if the regional sewer rates go through uxbridge would likely drop the case since the regional rate would help even up the levies writer honored pickering robert miller of brougham will be among those honored by pickering council with a civic recognition ring i council
