come and worship him from the ministers study by vg shillington hr j stouffville malcolm muggeridge an outstanding figure in britain has become a fascinating tv personality on this side of the atlantic christians jump for joy when they find his name in the weekly guide muggeridge is that very remarkable christian convert of this decade you see i watch him too in case you are not acquainted with his background here is a brief sketch he has an ex cellent education as a professional journalist he became editor of punch magazine in britain up until recent years muggeridge ardently opposed christianity then something happened and i am not quite sure what it was which caused him to change his position with the result that he is now a very outspoken christian moralist conservative christians are overjoyed with the change i am muggeridge has also written a book jesus rediscovered it was advertised in a recent issue of the tribune christians are excited with the publication and in a sense i am too the purpose of this article is to encourage christians to examine all that a man believes and to invite nonchristians to investigate the facts surrounding the christian faith as it is found in the new testament then and only then are we prepared to read jesus rediscovered in his discussion of the crucifixion and resurrection of christ muggeridge tends to be strangely inconsistent he examines and accepts every detail of the crucifixion from the crown of thorns to the nails when he comes to the resurrection of jesus which by the way is taken from the same writers in the new testament here is what he says page 50 51 whether it happened as described in the gospel narrative and endlessly repeated by christian apologists is another question in any case what does it matter i even prefer to suppose that some bodysnatcher accustomed to hanging about golgotha to pick up anything that might be going heard in his dimwitted way that the king of the jews was up for execution good he thinks there are bound to be pickings there so he waits till the job is done finds out where the corpse is laid drags the stone away and then making sure no one is watching decamps with the body what a disappointment for him this king of the jews has no crown no jewels he is just a wor thless wasted broken naked body the man contemptuously abandons the body to the vultures who in their turn jaave the bones to whiten in the sun those precious precious bones now the implication how do i know there was a crown a cross or for that part a christ since all the christian facts are taken from the same narrative which are true and which are false who is to be the judge are we is muggeridge or shall we believe the eyewitnesses as they relate the story from their experience caution a medicine chest thats a jumble of old medicines and other health supplies can be a danger instead of a help clean up and clear out now then stock up with us open daily 6402700 mon thru sat 9 am to 9 s to 1 unionville says leave us alone thursday june ii 1970 the tribune page 5 by bob hastings unionville it is when i walk under the trees and past the fine old homes of unionville that i realize most strongly that we are not the owners of our heritage but rather its guardians on behalf of future generations r spencer jackson put into words what many of the towns citizens feel about the prospect of having a fourlaned highway ram med through their main street last saturday a festival was held in unionville the street was closed to traffic and a civic happening was staged on a large scale the purpose- graduate brian leslie taylor rri goodwood has received his bachelor of physical education degree with 1st class honors and his bachelor of education degree may 29 from mcmaster univer sity hamilton he has served as a supply teacher at huron heights markham and stouffville secondary schools and will continue his studies in the fall at the university of western ontario to allow people to become more aware of the towns historical significance and to draw attention to tire need for community support in persuading the government to chose an alternative route according to stan neal chairman of the unionviuc conservation and development association it was a people demon stration a low key demonstration designed to encourage dialogue with all levels of government mr neal pointed out that this was just act one scene one rather than a climactic display of community concern many were awakened from their apathy which has grown perhaps from living here either too long or not long enough the festival provided something for everyone participant and patron alike a fine outdoor art exhibit drew throngs of visitors to view the works of unionvilles many ar tists for the athletically inclined a junior bike race preceded a senior mens thirty mile competition music was the mortar of fun as every type from the steady beat of the claremont citizens band to the frenetic beat of the rock groups was featured throughout the daylong affair antique car displays model air plane dog fighting field events barbershop singing marching bands and several other features of frivolity added to the festive mood much of this was recorded on film by cbcs television crews for presentation either last night wednesday or tonight at 700 730 pm in contrast to this ac tivity were
