into a theological debate however this one week with the permission of the editor and with yours i wish to answer mr james n smiths letter to the editor in last weeks issue of the tribune the statements to follow are of fered in sincerity and with conviction of the truth im glad mr smith made the point that this article reaches many persons who do not attend sunday services that is my main objective to communicate the gospel first of all mr smith it is my desire also to be a faithful and true witness of jehovah in re lating scriptural truth to my fellows your dis agreement with my article in the jan 1 issue is respected nevertheless your statements are only half true and thats worse than completely false your first objection concerns the eternal na ture ol jesus christ you cited in paragraph 3 of your letter my statement that in order to obtain eternal life the blood of another is what we need who is the donor he must be eternal then he must be god himself why does that repel you mr smith you mean you cannot find it in scripture well lets have a look the old testament prophet isaiah looked for ward to the day when god would reveal him self in human form here is what he said con cerning jesus christ for unto us a child is born unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called wonderful counsellor the mighty god the everlasting father the prince of peace isa 96 after christ had come in the flesh and after his ascension john wrote the revelation of the person and work of christ quoting jesus he said i am the alpha and the omega which is which was and which is to come the almighty rev 1 8 john knew jesus in the flesh he knew his subject he made no mistake when he called jesus the almighty the writer to the hebrews makes no bones about asserting that god the son is the exact expres sion of the essence of the father heb 1 14 pauls regard for jesus christ far exceeds that of some wouldbe christians today here is what he says for by him jesus were all things created that arc in heaven and that are in earth visible and invisible all things were created by him and for him col 1 16 it is obvious then that jesus the son is not a created being or a god he is the god eternal in his nature let me refer to the lirst few lines in johns gos pel in the beginning was the word and the word was god not a god as some warped trans lations would have it all things were made by him jn 1 13 we couldgo on another point was the physical human blood of christ eternal you say no mr smith and i do too my point however in that article was to contrast the physical with the spiritual the temp oral with the eternal in the eternal counsels of god the blood of christ was shed from the found ation of the world rev 138 even as we are called in him from before the foundation of the world eph 14 thus you see the blood of the everlasting covenant heb 1320 is the blood to which i was referring and as you noted mr smith his blood is still as effective today s it was 2000 years ago because his blood continues to cleanse us from all sin 1 jn 17 in that sense then the blood or sacrifice of christ unlike any other is eternal in nature and is offered once for all you indicated also that my last paragraph was unworthy of a man professing to preach the gospel what did i say lets see believe com pletely in the blood of jesus christ ah i ask mr smith is that you compare that state ment with acts 1613 or with john 316 who soever believeth on him jesus hath everlasting life true faith includes repentance readers be not dismayed see you next week editors mail second markham baptist church r w morning stouffville baptist church 76 main st w 6402911 pastor gordon t goodcrham bth sunday january 25th 1970 950 bible col umn to the effect that rev gooderham be given the ability to write with a pen instead of a knife on reexamination i feel you were not being sarcastic but profound albeit unknowingly the book to which rev gooderham adheres states thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee that it may be dis played because of the truth in writing to the tribune occasionally he is displaying his banner because of the truth and the truth we all kaow is reputed to be cutting i am sure in this con text mr gooderham would agree that you com plimented him he would not wish to write with a feather when a knife is necessary to repudiate the injustices of a society whose gods are often the almighty media and whose minds absorb all printed information with out question as to validity or shadow of doubt the pastor has courage as do all who will display their banner because of the truth may i make a counter- pledge to yours for 1970 to rev gooderham and all who know that truth that makes us free let us raise our banner in 1970 by every means available to us even if it requires writing with a knife instead of a pen delia soper rr 2 pickering x new markham councillor takes office edward ted tious in an attempt to prove or disprove the commit tees findings i visited the cafeteria the following day i was accompanied by york board of educa tion communications of ficer margaret mclean and lined up with the stu dents we ordered a selection which included most items offered on the menu soup for 15c meat pie with gravy 25c chili with toast 30c a cheese sandwick 20c a hot dog 20c a hamburger 25c cherry pie 15c a carton of milk 13c and a milk shake 15c other varieties of sandwiches and des serts were available but theres a limit to what two people can eat we found the servings to be in proportion to the price we were charged the food was tasty and appetizing in appearance the only item about which we could complain was the hamburger a little on the rubbery side i found not one legiti mate cause for complaint in this day and age its difficult to buy a lunch for two at sl78 anywhere the only real unappetiz ing aspect of the meal was the atmosphere the din in the room was deafen ing is it any wonder the students complain of in digestion if they cant sit still while they eat how can they properly di gest their meals i will say this there could be a little more variety in the food offer ed but as the manager pointed out the majority of students buy the same items day after day and the demand for variety is minimal up more home pro tection in one pack age at less
