walker lady taxi driver from stouffville when a stouffville wo man applied to the whit church police for a license to drive a taxi in whit church township it caus ed quite a stir at the coun cil meeting the fuss was not be cause it was a woman who applied nor was it a matter of competition there is only one licen sed cab in whitchurch now and it is in oak ridges rather the council could not agree on the cost of a license police chief fred mason explained that a license was 8 and there was an additional 2 for every driver other than the own er councillor robert lew is in thinking over these figures found them to be far too reasonable i think council should re view this whole thing he suggested mr mason pointed out that by a whitchurch by law taxis were required to display special metal plates identifying them and they were to receive the plates when they were granted a license this practice was discontinued he said when it was dis covered that the cost of horticultural meeting taxis in the township we dont have to worry about needing special plates to identify them seated councillor lewis the bylaw concerning the plates was duly noted down for review but not before someone mention ed that it was not likely to be attended to for at least three weeks lets not hold up issu ing the license for that long councillor norman barnard objected but we dont want to issue the license just be fore we raise the fee said reeve stewart bur nett after a discussion as to how high the fee should go the council members decided that it should be left as is until the new year they
