uxbridgereach townllne a proposed county arterial road protest oxbridge arterial road charge county highhanded 2 3 4 5 6 uxbridge twp the proposed construc- etion of an arterial road from highway 47 along hthe townline between the townships of uxbridge land reach has aroused the concern of property lowners in the area a 29name petition opposing ithe project has been sent to the warden of on- tario county originally the selected route was to go through lhe glen major on cone 7 but this plan also met 1 strong opposition from residents there later the county approved an alternate route copies of the protest petition have been sent to ithe hon matthew dymond reeve alvin redshaw councillor clark muirhead and the citizens com- 1 mittee of glen major it reads as follows 126 glen road s toronto 5 ontario june 5 1968 the warden 3 members of council 3 county of ontario county office 3 whitby ontario sirs 3 we wish to bring to your attention and the e county council a most serious matter to the tax- j payers of uxbridge and the surrounding town- i ships it is apparent that the county of ontario has now proposed an arterial highway to proceed 1 through dagmar chalk lake via the uxbridge town line continuing on to highway 401 with 3 little or no advance warning we the undersigned feel that this has been 5 done in a very highhanded manner without pro- 3 per presentation to the taxpayers in this area 3 consequently we are all very concerned knowing h that this will inevitably increase our already over- 1 burdened taxes and will destroy one of the few re- imaining beauty spots close to metro this we find most intolerable trilllllfmllllllllllllllliiiillllllt 1iiiii1iiiiiiiiim iii1iiiihiii1iiiiiu11 iiil lilllllsllllluii illllllllllllllllllliiiiiulillllllliiimiiiiiiilillinillllllieilllliiltlllllllllhiiilltf we are not prepared to pay additionally for a road which we consider to be unnecessary and a blot on the landscape for the following reasons 1 greatly increased taxes for which at present we get no services at all deprivation of privacy and property as the road will come to the front doorstep of many of the homes extremely heavy traffic mostly on weekends which is a hazard to children and farm ani mals carbon monoxide pollution expropriation of property long held by farm ers and retired people probable contamination of chalk lake which will be just a few hundred feet from the pro posed road and is used by thousands of people every year 7 pollution or complete loss of natural spring just north of 4 corners which is the sole source of clean drinking water for hundreds of people in the district many of whom use this as their only water supply we would be most interested to find out what plans you have in mind to maintain this important and valuable water supply if the road does go through it is our considered opinion that an alternate route could be used with much less expence to the taxpayer ie highway 12 could be widened or presently paved roads could be extended to carry the extra load we are well aware that the resi dents of glen major have already objected to this railroading gentlemen we too object we hope this subject will be brought up at the next meeting of the council and there will be grave thought given to this matter if necessary we will agree to send a representative to meet with the warden or member of council and express our op position in person signed mrs pamela m martin yangtze pagoda dining lounge nightly entertainment carol long pianist you a mileage watcher whore comedians get all their wise wisecracks has always puzzled us especially the ones we wish wed thought of first how about the one that roes like this the average girl always prefers beauty to brains because she knows that most men can see better than they can think if you dont think thats true ask any car dealer who refuses to turn back high odometer mileage on his used cars how he makes out with customer sales resistance hell tell you it can be pretty discouraging its easy enough to do in this scientific age theres even a gadget than can roll back the mileage to a figure with more sales appeal and not leave tampering marks on the back of the odometer head or its mounting bolts its done by disconnecting the odometer cable from the cars transmission inserting it into the device and flicking a switch turning back mileage has one unfortunate dis advantage for the customer it leaves a worn out car still worn out and it has one for the dealer too it eventually makes for a dissatisfied customer who next time buys somewhere else a reputable dealer often has the reconditioning records of a car he has taken in from a new car purchaser as well as the name and address of the previous owner for inspection by a used car buyer play it safe as much as you can by seeking out a dealer whose policy is to cater to your long term satisfaction moikhom chrysler dodge
