markham skating clubs fourth annual carnival when they visited the val ley of the green giant snoopy meets the green giant a novel in terpretation of schwartzs beloved cartoon charac- ters written and produced by club professional karen lewis was a refreshing change from repetitious themes of former years the ice extravaganza which featured a huge cast of junior and senior stu dents began with the mar- kettes rousing opening number consider your self one of us charm excuses flaws for young and old alike the exploits of charlie richard spence lucy jan byrnes and droppy- eared snoopy glen dou- wishes person ally the tribune is pleased to extend its congratula tions with the hope that this fine village couple may enjoy many more years of health and happi ness together a flying machine whose motor sound effects sounded suspiciously like a lawn mower contained sufficient appeal to count er any flaws in the preci sion of some of the young er skaters one could readily ex cuse a laggard in the swift moving formation of pink and white clouds for their charm the colorful costumes of farmers yellow sun shine twirling red scare crows greenhatted corn plants stripewinged corn bores sparkling blue rain drops green tendrilled weeds string beans even ing stars darling peas cannery workers farmers helpers and tin can good ies passing in- dazzling sequence blinded the spec tator to any technical de ficiencies and there were a few the green giant anne kerr had difficulty skat ing to the music which had wrongfully been selec ted for her solo it was to her credit she managed to complete her number successfully other noticeable flaws were in the straggly lines of skaters when smaller skaters had difficulty keeping up with their big ger leaders lazy days the second half of the revue by the sea 1898- 1968 was pink and blue beach pyjamaed skating beauties captured some of the sentiment of yester years as is so often the way with these numbers then a tiny bathing belle in a polka dot bikini stole the show when she timidly advanced out of her beach tent and did a shivery solo around the rink the goose pimples on the exposed parts of her were bigger than the polka dots on her wisp of garment with wintertime fro lics a striking 19th cent ury scene of scarlet swath ed ladies and tophatted beaus courting pasty black coach lanterns a nautical note with sailors in girl catchers some horsing around with a wildeyed horse ginny carson and christine prentice and some tricky footwork with flappers doing the charl ston and gangsters oh the prowl the revue skated into 1968 with gogo boots and miniskirts excellent solos were performed by lucy shar key and marie jarick who received tremendous ova tions karen dorey wen dy gunn valerie may- nard susan rutledge san dra reid carolynn mar- low and erin ferbey were other soloists miss lewis in cabaret girl added a touch of finesse when she bumped and grinned seductively before the big time oper ator it is to the credit of
