a salute to a senior citizen stouffvllile as pari of stouffvilles centennial events program during 1967 the committee is honoring senior citizens of the community who have reached or exceeded the age of 90 years the tribune working in cooperation with this committee is featuring a short biography of a lady or gentleman each week who has reached this milestone we are pleased then to pay tribute to mr fred reynolds stouftville who on february 17 marked his 93rd birthday mr fred reynolds is still a fine looking gentleman and has a great sense of humor he resides now in york manor newmarket where he has been for a few months but before had spent most of his life in stouftville and district born in 1874 on his fathers farm at glasgow one of a family of twelve of william reynolds and susan graham he attended school there for a short time before his family moved to altona he lived there for about five years then the family returned to the old homestead at glasgow on leaving school at 1 mr reynolds can recall that he moved around the area quite a bit hiring himself out to farmers at the age of twenty he married hulda shaffer of good wood and lived at clarcmont on a rented farm he remembers a little later work ing at the elevators at goodwood for john todd mr reynolds had three sons burt orval and charles burt became a school teacher and taught school till last year at the age of seventy orvalworked onthe railway until he retired this year at the age of 69 charles he recalled stayedonthe farm with him later mr reynolds gave the farm to charles who worked it for some lime and then sold it when mr reynolds left the farm he moved to stouftville and started to work at a shoe and harness store he can recall there was a great demand for their work at the time owing to the greal number of horses being used retires around five years ago he retired and lived on his own as he has lost his wife five years before that later on he moved into brierbush hospital you know he said i loved that place mrs reed was so good to me i wish i was back there now mr reynolds told us that he had heard that mr lalcham had given the old altona school which he had attended as a boy to the community a fine thing that he said i knew art when he was a small boy knew his father and grandfather too yes he is a fine man art latcham enjoys the radio mr reynolds is confined to a wheelchair now and spends much of his time listening to the radio f keep up with all the world events he said that was a terrible thing that happened in detroit glad thai we dont have that kind of thing here would love to visit slouffville again as we said before mr reynolds is confined to a wheelchair re told us one thing he would like most would be to pay a visit to stouftville to see the town again and also to see what they have done to the clock tower with which he is not in agreement and also to take a ride around the countryside and visit places he knew so well we told mr reynolds that if it could be arranged we would be delighted to take him on such a journey and we are sure that stouft ville will salute a senior citizen of theirs when he passes through to preach at i baptist church by
