ps 12 the tribune niity mty 18 1967 a teenager stouffville fifteen year old dianne taylor a grade 10 student of stouffville district high school is a cityborn country girl well almost in the city until the age of nine she lived in a subdivision home in scarboro then her parents mr and mrs donald taylor purchased the dick foote farm cone 9 whitchurch south of bloomington dianne has since become so well adjusted to the rural way of life that she wouldnt want to change back for all the world dianne has no brothers or sisters but her interest in animals keeps her busy she has two riding horses patches and dablo two dogs sport and tammy and a persian cat by the name of fluff these are only five of many reasons she would rather live on a farm i like the wide open spaces she said besides the people are more friendly and easier to get to know bloomington school dianne received her early public school education at the walter perry school in scarboro moving into grade 4 at bloomington when her parents came to whitchurch upon completion of her high school commercial course at the end of grade 12 she hopes to take a position as an office secretary and later train as an airline stewardess dianne would like to travel and in particular visit italy dianne admits that living outside of stouffville and travelling to and from school by bus makes it difficult to become involved in some extracurricular ac tivities im also afraid that my academic standing might suffer she said she was the runnerup in the school posture queen competition earlier this spring and hopes next year to become a student cheerleader history and book keeping are her two favorite subjects she can already type 50 words per min ute steady boyfriend diannes idea of an evenings entertainment is attending the ha penny coffeehouse in stouffville or a good show at markham her steady boyfriend is grade 10 student doug clark a stouffville juvenile hockey forward who brings along his onegirl cheering section elvis presley is her favorite movie star and on this dianne and her mother agree in fact mrs taylor saw elvis when he entertained at maple leaf gardens in toronto back in 1956 dianne is also a fan of the monkees dianne is a camera bug and has an album full of colorful pictures as proof of her ability she is also an amateur hair stylist shes an excellent cook even her father says so loves to swim skate and ski shes a bobby orr fan and a boston rooter for the leafs its that one and only eddie shack during the summer vacation period dianne will be employed as a wait ress at cedar beach park musselmans lake yes fifteen year old dianne taylor is a countrified city girl and the country scenery is all the better for her being here both performers are accustomed to singing in noisy coffe houses and mr stanbury was impressed with the attention that the hapcnny crowd displayed and was amazed that people still were listening at 2 am editorial school spirit by dieter schxell every year one of the student councils first tasks is to get out their rnsgic wand and sprinkle school spirit dust over everyones head what is school spirit anyway a strong attachment to stouffville high buying an activity card parad ing school colours down the halls good attend ance at dances the number of head counted at a glee club meeting mass hysteria students will not attend extracurricular ac tivities unless they want to and unless they are mo tivated to there is no such thing as school spirit and the success of a school year should not be eval uated by it what the student council really is looking for is spirit period an awareness of your self not only in school but in the town the country and the world the lack of this awareness is as much the fault of the school system and the envir onment as it is the fault of the student the stud ent council should not blame everything on the jack of school spirit in the school they simply re flect the interests of the students and if student council meetings arc boring it is because the stu dent body is boring however students who do not participate in school activities are missing an important part of life it is enough to come to school each day fit in to your pattern play your role as conformist and never step out a little if the dcpt of fducation finds this admirable then i suggest wc give such students special recognition at the end of the year perhaps a special bar worth 95 points school as the education instead of the means of an education does nothing towards shaping our character extra curricular activities develop your individuality if that word hasnt gone out of style debating team lose fifteen year old dianne taylor a grade 10 commercial student of stouff ville district high school staff photo by susan sherwood stouffville stouff ville dist high school is noted for its fast talkers one of these ruth parsons is exceptional and we are all very proud of her others the members of the debating team rick rod- smith coaching the boys there was no doubt that once more sdhs would be the champion the debate held at king city and here at stouffville was resolved that canada should join the united states the negative and affirmative teams had very well organized arguments compared with those of king city and to the grade 11 and 12 classes allowed to listen their style and delivery left the opposition far
