did in the storm sewer on slain st stouftville it was all part of the initiation rites at stouffville district high school for new grade nine students sc heart of all who walked those long inviting corri dors for the first time i walked down the corridor watching the class lists for my name and noticing those of my old classmates i found it under two large figures 9e and proceeded to room 4 to meet my new- classmates and home room teacher that morning we were made to learn a long list of rules most of which were seemingly ridiculous to me but seeing as 1 was just a pupil a gr 9 one at that i could do nothing a- bout it the next morning i ex perienced my first human stampede as the bel went it seemed everyone rushed toward their next class not caring who they pushed stepped on or elbowed just as long as they got there on time out in the midst of it all i stood and won dered if i should get a com pass or not it really was confusing that night in bed i lay gazing at the star filled sky wondering if they had traf fic jams up there too ma ny questions raced through my mind such as why dont they have more time to get to classes so everyone wouldnt have to rush so and why are the lockers so small and why do they have lunch at such silly times of day and many oth ers but as i asked those i realized that i had grown up now and everything would be new and differ ent by miriam sider 12b students council president for 196667 randy mole has many ideas for this year at sdhs but most of his aspirations for the school centre around maintaining and building up the existing good school spirit randy hopes that every student will participate in extracurricular activi ties with a feeling that this is our school and letter system and lo firmly establish the per fect system as well he ho pes that more dances will be arranged this year how ever randy could think of no pet peeves about sdhs randy has certainly set a good example in partici pation he has taken part in track and field basket ball the u n club the science club the ski club the drama club the year book the newspaper the athletic council and of course the students coun cil although he has little time for hobbies randy en joys skiing reading collec ting pipes and music a- nything but country rock after this year randy plans on taking a scienc course at university he will have earned his high school diplima not only through academic achieve ment but through his con tributions lo our high school as well randy mole when asked what he ho pes to accomplish this year in the council randy re plied get schnell v v last friday or to use a jivorn out cliche black fri- tusy was the day that ssdhs resurrected its ifcastc system consisting of ijwo classes winers and he rest of the world during the day niners fypent their time carrying riine foot high stacks of books around the school as well as counting the riiumber of blades of grass s3n ten square feet of lawn and other menial tasks itjnfortunately last years irecord of 256 times around hhe school in the carrying books nine feet or higher category was not surpas- sed it is also interesting to note that there are 9537- 624 blades of grass in ten square feet of lawn night found them busily being inquisitioncd by the committee of death and destruction dressed like shepherds zombies hags and klansmcn the public should be re assured that the group fly ing about town under the illusion that they were but- terflics were students of stouffville high school and not escapees from a mental institution the public should also be than ked for buying so much toilet paper the money will be used towards the purchase of more toilet paper apart from a few bellig erent brats the niners this year were most coopera tive however the accuracy with which they hurled on ions al the commiltceiefl much to be desired in conclusion i would like lo say that this years initiation despite minor difficulties was most ef fective and interesting and was obviously enjoyed by the grade nine students alan lee and the rest of the committee should be commended for doing an excellent job wins 136 holden beats my first impression of high itcta busato 12b will it be the same will stouffville highs school spirit be similar to last years last year the first stimu lus to the school spirit was initiation during initia tion the obligations of the grade nine pupils made them aware of their part in the school it was now theirs and i am sure that they were proud of the fact the magazine drive was the next impetus circum scribed within the actual selling of magazines were personal destiny and school spirit a glee club was organ ized for the mutual benefit of students and school spi rit the glee club ski club science club a his tory club presented main- fields in which a student could extend his know ledge in sports a new system of house leagues was in troduced keen competi tion between houses gave us an incentive to work not only for our houses but also for our school spi rit the cheering crying and shouting of our cheerlead ers at pep rallies and gam es many a time spurred our team to victory everyday we enjoyed ourselves in the cafeteria where we would eat ex change gossip and some time do that last minute studying for a test dances made possible the opportunity of meeting and getting acquainted with school students at the dances books and pens were forgotten this asso ciation gave a unique at mosphere for the school spirit how could those irksome i hours of homework and studying be forgotten tliis was our real purpose for being at stouffville high vet knowing that other students were under a common yoke helped boost our school spirit ev en more this is just a glimpse of last years school spirit the acceptance salesman ship membership compe tition reciprocality and companionship were the components of the schools spirit all these elements evolved around and nurt ured the school spirit i believe that this years school spirit is not so new as it is uncertain those familiar anxious faces of the grade thirteen pupils are to be found only in our memories this year we are con fronted with a prefect sy stem which i am certain will become very effective new home rooms new home room teachers dif ferent lockers different timetable and some new rules are a few of the changes of stouffville high this year i
