czechoslovakia she now resides in pickering twp staff photo a pretty blonde 16 year old grade 12 student is the new reigning queen of pickering dist high school the silver crown was placed on the head of jana hasok in a colourful formal prom held in the schools auditorium on fri day evening feb 26th last years winner diane richardson officiated while ner two pretty attendants janet ruddy and nancy puckrin looked on the dance is the highlight of the social year at pickering high although jana calls canada her home she is actually a na tive of jablonee chechoslovakia she recalls nothing of her birth place however for at the age of only two years site moved with her parents and sister ava to pickering township hot- father operates a nursery farm just north of the pickering vil lage boundary ava is now a high school teacher at the west hill collegiate and jana could very well follow the same pro fession many talents to teach grade 12 at the age of sixteen takes a good deal of hard work hut jana lias found time to develop other talents she is an accomplished pianist and belongs to the school drama gym and chess clubs she can speak the czech language fluent ly and also a little german her favourite school subjects are english and french she enjoys acting very much and has play ed parts in two school dram presentations like most teenagers of todav she is a beatle fan but her mu sic tastes extend also to tha classics and opera she has a boy friend a grade 13 student at dunbarton high school she i not a strong advocate of going steady but suggests that girls should enjoy other friendships during their teen years on the night of the prom jana looked exceptionally pretty in a gold brocade formal with matching cold shoes and white gloves in addition to her beau ty jana has a personality dis tinction that alone would make her the students choice of pick ering high 4h club leaders meet at uxbridge 4h agricultural club leaders from ontario county attended their annual banquet and meet ing in uxbridge on march 3rd following the banquet at trin ity united church the group met in the agricultural board room to plan the 1965 4h club program a certificate recognizing five years of service as a club leader was presented to john lcask of port perry club leader pins recognizing one year as a club leader were presented to ralph honey and larry burt port perry 4h grain club leaders albert hockley scott 4h potato ted gordon sunderland 4h dairy norm meek scott 4h grain and bert pearson scott 4h tractor club leader dairy clubs will be organized in the brougham oshawa port perry and sunderland areas a beef club in the uxbridge area mixed dairy and beef clubs in the mara and bcaverton areas grain clubs in the cannington oshawa port perry and ux bridge areas a potato the board took place with some of the original members present as guests the meeting last thursday was a combined business and social function three of the earlier members have since the first meeting succumbed jack hambleton wellknown canadian writer and naturalist m vaughan willard for whom a pickering township school is named and who played a large part in school board work and a k calvert former president of the home bank current chairman david lennox told of losing sight of another original member f routley who left for montreal some years ago now in toron to he expressed regrets that there w h westney a former reeve and warden on the board for one year in 1948 the joint board atten ded nine meetings in 1955 the pickering board held 17 meet ings and last year there were 42 planning board meetings chairman lennox said that former clerk l t johnson had taken a bis part in organizing both planning boards he was secretary from 1947 to 1958 harry pcarce now welfare ad ministrator was commended for his work as secretary of the board following mr johnston and prior to the engagement of planning director john faulk ner i think one area that might be included in terms of devel opment of the planning board said mr wells ritchie is the professional consultation that weve had i think we should give some credit to the mem bers of metro planning authori ties to the department of mu
