1957 recognizes out standing contribution to the ontario potato industry it takes the form of a lapel pin a fram ed certificate and a listing in the book of recipients mr hockley has been grow ing seed potatoes for many years in the guelph seed po tato district his farm about three miles from uxbridge is a model of good management he uses a three year or longer rotation and maintains complete con trol of insects and diseases bas ed on uptodate methods complete sanitation is prac tised by seed treatment and the disinfection of bags storage and all equipment this year he grew three fields of sebago norland avon and f 4724 elite stock to gether with his general farm program of yorkshire pigs and beef cattle potatoes are his cash crop and 80 per cent is sold for seed besides running a farm busi ness mr hockley has offered his valuable time and knowledge to many other endeavours he has been president of the ont ario county 500 bushel potato club winning the competition himself in 1955 a trustee of the fifth line public school for 20 years he is presfdent of the ers association and 2nd vice- president of the ontario coun ty soil and crop improvement association this work outside his farm has kept mr hockley away from home and his amiable wife has assisted him ably in his endeavour and encouraged him to his successes pride in his potatoes and on tario potatoes has motivated his participation in the royal winter fair in 1963 he won the reserve championship award in both table stock and seed potatoes and this year the salada food trophy an international class with a champion
