magistrates court be held in ajax since pickering village coun cil has done nothing to improve its present court facilities all courts in the village which are presently held etery other thursday will relation to population and assessment a motion to ap proach the township council was passed mr williams told the rate payers the two northern wards of the township represent 25 per cent of the population ward three in the south which in cludes bay ridges has 37 per cent of the assessment and 41 per cent of the population ward four which includes the central part of the south of pickering township has 14 per cent of the assessment and 15 per cent of the population and ward five or the southwest area has 24 per cent of the assessment and 25 per cent of the population mr williams said a councillor is elected from each ward as well as a reeve and deputy reeve which were voted in from across the township one of the problems picker ing township is plagued by is that there is no driver not blamed for death of pickering girl a short cut to a friends home across the busy 401 highway brought death to 14yearold kathleen linda guest a whitby inquest was told last week kathleen guest of pine drive pickering was killed instantly oct 14 when she ran out into the eastbound lane of the high way and was struck by a truck the accident took place near the fairport beach road junction after a short recess the jury decided that the girl had died accidentally in trying to cross the road they attached no blame the driver of the truck involved in the accident injuries severe giving evidence dr r m claik pathologist with oshawa geneial hospital said that the girl died due to severe brain damage haemorrhage and mul tiple injuries her injuries he added were so severe that it was impossible to define the exact cause of death on the spot when the accident happened was joseph akkerman of simcoe street south oshawa he told the iury that he was travelling in the eastbound lane the girl he said was standing in the median whenhe passed her he estimated that she was about five feet from the side of the road in his rearview mirror he said he saw the girl run into the road right in front of a truck she seemed to stick to the front of the truck he added the truck skidded into tile median the accident he said took place in early evening the truck as he remembered had its lane he said the girls father mr john gues said he had last seen his daughter the morning of the accident before she left for school his daughter h said had been on her way to see a friend on the
