votes giving the health minister a beter than three to one lead like his party leader mr hollingsworth went down to defeat in his own polling are3 to the progressive conserva tive candidate shortly after 10 pm dr dymonds win was plainly ob vious and among the first call ers at his port perry home to congratulate the successful candidate were liberal sam hollingsworth with his cam paign manager godfrey schil ling followed by tommy ed wards in company with his campaign manager adrian goverde but by this time dr dy mond and his supporters were enroute to the northern hust ings to be greeted by cheering supporters knocks smear tactics the smiling succesful candi date tcld a cheering crowd as sembled in his home town committee rooms the past smear campaign conducted by the liberals was most reminis cent of the campaign of former liberal leader walter thomp son in 1951 mr thompson dr dymond said attempted to win an elec tion using the same tactics and suffered the same fate the health minister said he was tremendously happy with the results of yesterdays vote not only in his home riding but in the province itself he pledged himself to con tinue to work in the best inter ests of ontario and said he will be evermindful of the needs of the people in his own riding in whitby dr dymond col lected 1984 votes as compared to 1028 by mr edwards and 977 for mr hollingsworth the health minister claimed a seven to one victory in port perry polling 825 votes mr holilngsworth collected 151 votes in dr dymonds home town and mr edwards 49 in uxbridge dr dymond polled 613 votes as compared to 192 for mr hollingsworth and 5s for mr edwards in beaverton the health minister netted 375 votes mr hollingsworth 178 and mr ed wards 28 edwards lauds backers defeated ndp candidate thomas edwards stated icongratulate dr dymond on his popular and resounding victory he certainly reecived the confidence of the people of ontario riding there is no sourgrapes in this corner in fact we travel led to port perry last night to tell him this as far as the results in the riding are concerned i am com pletely satisfied we took several polls in whitby and whitby township which is a novel and enjoyable experience for us the narrowness of pc gains in many of the polls is a source of deep satisfaction this can be attributed to the efforts of our supporters who gave unstintingly of their ef forts as a principal we as a group are a func tioning concern in ontario rid ing and will be holding a watching brief upon affairs balsam mtzion several from here attended funeral services on
