the cgit of stouffville united church held their annual mo ther and daughter banquet with sixtysix girls their mothers guests and leaders in attend ance a toast was proposed by janet button rev cruikshank mrs jim thomas rupert ave was hostess to a miscel laneous shower on wednesday evening for miss glenys mc- kean a bridetobe of june 23rd about thirty friends and neigh- responded mardele willis and bmrs nt for the mrs willis rendered a very beautiful violin duet a toast caslon to the mothers was proposed by barbara sanders mrs sanders responded lynda nolan fav oured the guests with a solo and carol ann cossey presented a recitation a cheque on behalf of the united church women was received by rev cruik shank the following girls had per fect attendance for the year bonnie baker bacon a presentation was made by bar bara button to mrs peggy top ping who resigned as superin tendent earlier this year the highlight of the evening came when nine girls graduated in a ceremony conducted by rev cruikshank bonnie baker bar bara button carol ann cossey lynda nolan janis osterdahl bettyann slack joanne stouffer mardele willis and jean wint- erstein received graduation dip lomas and corsages the lead ers for the past year were as follows mrs bev ferguson miss dianne nelson mrs les clarke mrs lome boadway mrs john button mrs bruce rodgers mrs harold murphy mrs lloyd jennings paul boadway once school principal here mr paul boadway of stouff ville passed away suddenly on sunday may 27 1962 near clif ford ont mr and mrs boad way accompanied their daugh ter pauline mrs don ratcliff for a weekend visit with their daughter dorothy mrs h hall- man in hanover when return ing sunday evening paul was stricken with a coronary and passed away suddenly he was born in newark new jersey in 1898 a son of the late jacob and ada boadway in 1918 he married eflle cunningham who survives him along with their 4 children pauline mrs don ratcliff rev harold boad way of breslau dorothy mrs harris hallman of hanover and rev theodore boadway of berlin wisconsin and 13 grand children also a brother ed of scarboro sisters edna mrs el- don smith lincolnville olive mrs arthur lehman blen heim and a brother wes of beaverton mr boadway had been a resi dent of stouffville for the past 60 years having been a school teacher manager of the domin ion store and a salesman he was a member of the united missionary church and the ser vice was in charge of his pas tor rev arthur walsh this was held in the local baptist church on wednesday may 30 at 2 pm pallbearers were three grandsons paul and bud rat cliff and ted boadway loyd wideman bert stouffer and howard ratcliff interment was in stouffville cemetery rev j williams preaches his farewell sermons farewell services were con ducted in stouffville baptist church on sunday by pastor j williams prior to leaving may 31st to begin his new pastorate at emmanuel baptist at barrie both morning and evening serv ices were well attended and be spoke the high esteem in which he was held by both church and community mr and mrs williams came to the local baptist church from mission work in africa just a little over four years ago from the first the ministry demon strated the blebing of the lord congregations increased con siderably and many were added to the church not only did the work go ahead spiritually but also materially as pastor and mrs williams leave for their new work on a larger field with greater oppor tunity we know that what is loss for us is gain for the new workt in his farewell addresses on sunday mr williams challeng ed the congregation to stand to gether and go forward in the local work which has grown so greatly during his pastorate mr williams specifically men tioned the doubling of sunday school attendance and growing congregation on wednesday evening mem bers of the congregation gather ed at the church to honour the couple and present them with several tangible tokens of es teem including a brother denton and family on sunday on his way to a convention in connecticut engagement mr and mrs james mckean of stouffville wish to announce the engagement of their daugh ter glenys anne to barry stuart emmerson son of mrs eric gardner of holt and the late alden emmerson the marriage to take place june 23 1962 in st james presbyterian church stouffville farmed at bethesda for thirty yean mr bertram walter tawn passed away at his home 115 main st e on friday may 25 1962 after an illness of nearly four years he was born in uti- ca in 1898 son of the late john william tawn and mary ann allin former residents on al bert st stouffville in 1928 he married alice wright who sur vives him they farmed at be thesda for over 30 years and about 19 months ago retired to their present home he was identified with bethesda united church besides his wife he is survived by a son glen at home and 3 daughters lois mrs r frisby victoria square doris mrs w walls of bethesda and audrey at home a brother harvey of newmarket and two sisters mrs dave crosier and mrs arthur march both of stouffville also survive the funeral service on mon day may 28th was held in the l e oneill funeral chapel in charge of rev george davison pallbearers were james gib son wm empringham maurice pike wesley brillinger russell hunt and xlbert scott inter ment was in heise hill ceme tery don mills rd stores keeping uptovate to a great extent most of the stouffville business places which are announcing early summer and anniversary sales in this issue have all modern ized their premises to some de gree in the last few years stouffville main st presents a bustling business section of wellstocked stores with modern fronts fine interior lighting and in a number of cases aircon ditioning keeping up with the times has been the aim of main street and shoppers have shown apprecia tion by patronizing these stores in ever increasing numbers over the years miss coakwell was in 87th year miss edith maud coakwell of locust hill died at brierbush hospital stouffville on satur day in her 87th year she was a daughter of the late mr and mrs wm coakwell who farm ed at lot 15 con 10 markham township and lived all her life in the district for many years with her sister at locust hill one of the recollections of her early years was seeing the train track being laid through locust hill about 1883 her teacher at ss no 21 took the pupils to see the historic event she had been ill for several months in scarboro hospital and was recently taken to brier- bush she is survived by her sisters alberta mrs herbert jarvis of locust hill ella mrs wil liam joyce toronto and a brother arthur of markham township the funeral was held on mon- dv with service conducted by re frank j little of locust hill united church pallbearers were messrs f j armstrong l bath w gould g reesor k reesor and h b rutherford interment was in locust hill cemetery rev kenneth barton bth of iron bridge ontario has accepted a call to the pastoral charges of churchill and viv ian rev barton was a stu dent minister at iron bridge and following his graduation from toronto baptist sem inary in 1953 he became the pastor of the bethel baptist church mrs barton pictured here with her husband and daughter is also a graduate of the baptist seminary in duction service will be held in the vivian church on wednes day june 6th at 8 church banquet sail the brides mother wore a pale blue sheath dress of silcana fabric with black and white accessories and a corsage of white carnations and pink roses the grooms mother in a brown sheath organza over taffeta with beige straw hat and a corsage of lester hibbard roses assisted her leaving for a honeymoon to points west the bride donned a beige suit with pink and brown accessories isth attend ed the fireworks display in th stouffville memorial park on thursday night fifteen motorcyclists wer given a rather cool reception by ontario provincial police at musselmans lake on sunday afternoon the group all mem bers of one club left the local resort centre without incident mr and mrs alfred smith moved to their new home on victoria st formerly occupied by mr and mrs harry schell box grove mr and mrs w plaskitt and family and mr and mrs ron connor and boys of stouffville dr helen abell is spending a few days in stouffville with her family after completing an assignment for the food and agricultural organization of the united nations helen was in the northern region of ni geria conducting a survey of the part played by rural wom en in both farm and home life the area jn
