minister of labour talk of election seemed to have diminished somewhat on parlia ment hill this week meanwhile the house was winding up the throne speech debate preparatory to dealing with a number of legislative items on the books in the name of the government among the items waiting to be dealt with was the legisla tion relating to the publication of financial statistics by both unions and companies this measure stands in the name of the minister of justice and has been the subject of a good deal of comment amendments were also com ing forward to the small busi ness loans act a measure that has been instrumental in mak ing loans available up to a ceil ing of s25000 to small business enterprises across canada the construction of a railway line in gaspe is an item of ma- ior importance and will result in considerable industrial devel opment which awaits the open ing of this railway this item stands in the name of the min ister of transport another important measure waiting to be dealt with is a broadening of the farm im provement loans act to place a ceiling of 3400000000 on the total amount of money which can be granted under this act it also extends the measure to june 30 1965 and will empower the granting of a great number of loans up to that time this measure stands in the name of the minister of finance a further extension is also provided through a measure al so standing in the name of the minister of finance to the fish- pries improvement loans act have given rise to int i which will be of considerable and informative debates benefit to fishermen on both coasts bringing the provisions of this act up to june 30 1965 also there is also a measure deal ing with canadas transactions with the international monetary fund which has been causing discussion in recent weeks then there are estimates of al departments still to come during the discussion of which parliament will have the oppor tunity of debating and examin ing the expenditures of the de partments headed by various ministers another measure on the books provides for payment of certain provincial taxes and fees by crown corporations all of these measures will no doubt receive exhaustive dis cussion in the house owing to their intrinsic importance and to the bearing which the monetary items will have on the economy in general the departmental estimates of course are thoroughly dis cussed and examined in each session and receive caieful con sideration on the part of the majority of members therefore there is still a great deal of important and urg ent business before the present session and this of course does not take into account further measures which the govern ment may bring down from tme to time a number of measures were indicated in the throne speech some of which have yet to ap pear on the order paper in addition there are of course a great many private bills which take up an hour of the time of the house on every day of the week
