on their float entry for the san ta claus parages in claremont on nov 2th and in stouffsihe on dee 3rd no school time is consumed by this venture the work is done during recess per iods at noon hours and after four oclock twentytwo bays and girls were busily employed on their project when a trib une reported called the altona float will carry no less than 1000 handmade flow ers under the supervision of staff teacher mrs vera franc it is expected that their entry will be comparable to the pi ize- wlnners that have been compet ed by the school in past year- its strictly voluntesr work 6aid mrs francis even the boys pitch in to help the flowers both white and yellow are con structed out of crepe paper with the first parade les than three weeks away the altona school will continue to be a hive of activity oil to village metro torontos new but al ready famous pioneer village now under development as a pre confederation crossroads community has added a 101- yearold church to its growing collection of buildings the old fisherville presbyter- ian church which has stood at the corner of dufferin st and steeles ave in northwest metro toronto since 1s36 was hauled by truck a distance of two miles to its new site in the metropoli tan toronto and region conser vation authoritys pioneer vill age at jane st and steeles ave the church was donated to the authority earlier this year by the united church of can ada fisherville church was established on dec 11 1856 to serve the flourishing community which had grown up around a sizeable grist mill operation on the west branch of the don river on the property now own ed by the connaught medical research laboratories the pro perty was originally part of the old fisher estate when the laboratories acquir ed the property in 1915 the mill pord mill and millers j house stood as they were in the fisherville of a century ago however in the spring of 191a i floods carried out the dam and the old mill was dismantled the church was erected on the north side of what is now i known as steeles avenue west i and was built of white pine with the exterior finished in rough cast opposite the church i when it was built was a black smiths shop and a row of three cottages with cherrys hotel at the corner of the concession road which is now dufferin st the hotel remained as a land mark until 1915 when the pro perty was acquired by the unij versity of toronto bloomington the november wa meeting was held thursday afternoon in the church with the president mrs o harding in charge mrs simmons gave a report of the third womens population as conveniently as possible the staff of the clinic will include a psychiatrist who will be responsible for the oper ation of tne clinic a psycholo gist a psychiatric social worker and the necessary office staff with little if any local psy- chiatric services presently avail able to the residents of york county the new clinic can ex pect to be almost inundated with problems right from the begin ning its services will be par ticularly appreciated by school authorities and community so cial and welfare services as well as by private physicians re quiring consultation and treat ment for private patients the fear today that automa tion will cause much unemploy ment is comparable to the fear many years ago that the steam- shovel would throw many pick and shovel workers out of a job
