resemblance to the french movie queen brigitte bardot in spite of the startling similarity barbara has never attended a bardot movie and does not pretend to copy her clothes fashions or hair stylos ive seen her picture she ad mitted and i think shes pret ty she laughed at the sugges tion that they have anything in common i certainly cant touch her in every department she joked barbaras auburn schools and the district high school show ed an increase of 1s2 pupils over the attendance figures es tablished in september 1959 on tuesday morning an influx of 991 boys and girls established an alltime record the largest individual enroll ment addition has been record ed at the high school there were 179 opening day students present in september 1959 on tuesday this figure had climb ed to 3s1 an increase of 102 principal w e duxbury ex plained that the inclusion of two grade nine classes from the aurora district was at least par tially responsible for the enroll ment climb a new school is planned for the township of king which will eventually ab sorb the carryover into stouff ville to cope with the aurora pu pils five classes of grade 9 stu dents have been established with an open golf tournament saturday the second annual mongolia invitational golf tournament is being staged at the markham golf country club this sat urday afternoon the invitation is issued by hal gibson impress the markham officer their car was taken to the village police station and thoroughly searched it was later released and the girls left town without further incident sgt gilliatt was summoned to the scene when the visitors ent ered two shops on the pretext of purchasing some merchandise their rather strange actions aroused the suspicions of the proprietors at a third store one girl had already taken the owner for a 20 bill which she tucked down inside her dress when the officer arrived she had also gained possession of the mans wallet containing a rather large sum of money everything was returned to the proprietor intact tiie girls claimed to possess unusual powers in an effort to demonstrate their supernatural gift they suggested that they could rid the store owner of a persistent head cold that had caused him some discomfort a 20 bill securely wrapped in a handkerchief was the simple trick of the trade although the cold was not cured the money quickly disappeared sgt gilliatt told the tribune that such girls a type of gypsy travel the circus route during the busy carnival season he said that when business be comes rather quiet they take to the road and prey on store- owners in small villages and hamlets he suggested that their usual motive is shoplifting by travelling in pairs one will at tract the attention of the pro- piretor while the other helps herself whitchurch it marked the com pletion of a project that was started in 1958 the plans were drawn up in 1959 and the work was started in may of this year the contractors were miller hammett of newmarket reeve george richardson de scribed the building program as a forward step in the progress of the township he pointed out that the old garage was a con stant fire hazard and inadequate to properly house the numerous pieces of road equipment i feel we obtained good value for the money expended he said office space lias been set aside in one section of the structure for the road supt mr ernest davis among the many dignitaries who addressed the public gath ering was mr earl toole a former reeve ot whitchurch and county warden he recalled the year when the first road grader was purchased in the municipality for 5000 he not ed that during his final term ot office tiie entire road budget did not exceed 12000 mr toole is now chairman of the york county roads dept mr w l clark reeve ot markham township and present warden of york county spoke briefly he suggested that the new garage erected at button ville a few years ago was the best money ever spent in mark ham township an
