victoria square cemetery take srivicoe yellow pickerel too well fed wont be caught it has been known for some time that lake simcoe contains sizeable numbers of yellow pick erel these fish are most evident during their spawning run into the talbot river in the spring however during the angling sea son it is a rare occasion when one is caught a preliminary netting survey recently carried out by conser vation officers k truesdell h vanwyck and b collins of the department of lands and for ests indicates that pickerel are inhabiting the shoreline waters in the gamebridge area good catches were made in this area and smaller catches of larger i fish being made off roches pt the largest pickerel caught dur ing the survey weighed twelve pounds while the average fish in the catch weighed three pounds there are two possible reas ons why pickerel are not caught in numbers by anglers on lake simcoe either the anglers are not using the proper technique in these waters or the pickerel just will not bite it appears that the latter reason is the correct one as the pickerel taken during the survey were the fattest ever seen the abundance of natural food in lake simcoe is evidently too much competition for the anglers lure or bait however for those pickerel anglers who wish to pit their skill against this natural food we suggest you give the game- bridge and roches point areas a try evening or night would probably be the best time to fish as pickerel move into shallow water at this time to feed last week two former members of the christian endeavor mrs s has tings was speaker and
