at college park md dr helen c abell of ottawa and formerly of siouffville sub mitted a survey of education in home economics in canada that said in 1957 over 1000 young women were taking university courses in home economics but most collegetrained home eco nomists marry and either cease or temporarily suspend their ac tivities as wage earners they are employed as teachers in in dustry and by the government and the demand far exceeds the supply the report is one of 12 sub mitted by countries taking part the congress is attended by one thousand home economists sur veys review home economics ed ucation in connection with social and economic conditions in each country- the canadian report said can adians are marrying earlier liv ing longer and going to school longer more women are work ing of canadian youth home economists not neces sarily with special training im prove canadian homes and fam- ilv living through organization like the canadian association of consumers womens institutes homemaking clubs parenttea cher associations and service clubs each province has a home economics service available to educate the public in domestic science facilities were needed for teaching home economists more about their profession including awards for postgraduate train ing and research summer cour ses were also needed to teach teachers more about home eco nomics and child caie classes should be established for par ents the report noted home economists dissemin ated information in canada through the press radio tele vision and other publicity there is strong evidence that the canadian home economist is making a contribution toward the improvement of home and gormley news th stouffwui twuw tkwby aiqot u 195 fcr 0 sponsibility by the husband and family living the report said cedar grove there has been news of the happenings in cedar grove in local papers for over one hun dred years that goes back far ther than the telephone in those early pioneer days i wonder who was responsible for local items meeting tiie papers dead line even more i wonder how those bits of news reached the ears of the correspondent did she hang over the hot stoe in the general store or drop into one of the local inns just be fore closing perhaps she flag ged down any passing horseman and bribed the news from him with bread fresh from the oven whatever the method it was reported without the aid of the telephone but not today a silent phone temporarily out of order means a shortage of news in cedar grove today still sil ent at deadline lime and i just hope i didnt miss the scoop of
