of the doxology on saturday jan 25th thirty- three members of the wideman family all except one grand son sat down to a family din ner at the home of mr and mrs harvey wideman guests of honor were mr and mrs j l wideman in whose honor the gathering was called later that day open house was held at the home of mr and mrs j l wideman where over fifty friends signed the guest book which was looked after by valera wideman the tea table was centred with a threetier anniversary cake flanked by vases of chrys anthemums a dainty lunch was served by the daughtersinlaw and grandchildren of the honor ed guests among the many gifts receiv- ed was a gold and blue lamp a gift of the family and a wool blanket a gift from relatives in ontario a telegram of con gratulations was also received from a niece in toronto mr and mrs wideman both name markham township in york couity ontario as their birthplace mr wideman was born on jan 13 1882 and mrs wideman on may 10 1881 they both spent their childhood in eastern canada attending the same schools when mr wide- man was 24 he decided to go west to take up a homestead he came to the didsbury area and following a short period working there in 1906 he came to the castor district his home stead was near where the mark ham church today stands and where his son harvey still main tains the farm home mr wideman made a trip to eastern canada late in 1907 and returned in the spring of 1908 bringing his bride back with him mr and mrs wideman were married on jan 22 1908 at the home of her parents mr and mrs wideman devoted their life to farming and lived on the original homestead until nine years ago when they re tired coming to make their home in castor they are parents of four children harvey of castor and allan of berrymoor alia a son mervyn passed away in 1953 and a daughter vera died in 1946 mr and mrs wideman are proud of their eleven grand children faithful members of the unit ed missionary church they both maintain a keen
