NIPISSING DIAMOND Timmins Rink was formally opened for the season/last night. The Tim- mins Band was in attendance andfur- nished good music. The ice was in excellent shape and the skaters enjoy- ed a very pleasant evening. The at- tendanee was not as large as it would otherwise have been, the election in- terest naturally interfering with the crowd at the rink. Manager Jack Mae Lean had everything right up to date for the opening and the skaters pre- sent consider the opening night a fore east of an innumerable good nights of skating this winter. The special attraction at the New Empire Theatre on Friday and Saturu day of this week, Dee. 9th. and 19th. is the Gertrude Atherton picture, "Don't Negelet Your Wife." This {notion picture has found special fa- vour and popularity where shown. Lee Moran, one of the favourites among the screen comedy actors will star in the spegial comedy Friday and Satur- day evenings, "Robinson Trousseau," a pun, no doubt on the old-time "Ro- binson Corkscrew†hy Tufou. The Nipissing Company are atiwork now on the sixth diamond drill hole on the Rochester property. Nothing ofti- cial has been given out as to the re. salts from the other diamond drill holes, but there is a general belief that the results have been satisfactory, in view of the fact that further drilling is being done. The Rochester claims adjoin the Hollinger on the west at the south corner of the big mine pro- petty. A few days after a certain North Bay newspaper denied the rumor and had many naws- ty words for anyone who would start such a yarn. The North Bay cet'- tain or uncertain newspaper ought to know what sort of an outfit would put such a story in circulation, for, so far as can be learned; it was only in this same certain of uncertain North Bay paper that the rumour was given any publicity at all. If this is a funny world, this North Land, it is only some of the southern newspapers that make it so. The special meeting of sharehold- ers recently appros:ed the by-laws to increase the capital stock of the King Kirkland Mines from two and a half million to five million shares, and to purchase the adjoining Ferguson pro- perty for 450,000 shares. The King Kirkland has spent about 160,000.00 on development work, and has 3,070,- 000 shares in the treasury for future needs. The shaft is down 100 feet. Further equipment is being taken on- to the property and it is understood enlarged development is planned. HE WHO MAKES RUMORS CAN DENY THEM BEST EMBED“! DISOONTIN'U'ES DRILLING ON EDWARDS CLAIM The Nipissing Co. of Cobalt has been doing some diamond drilling on the Edwards claims in the Porcupine area, but are understood to be drop- ping their option on the chains. A rather humourous incident is re- ported regarding the voting yesterday. A voter who is a very strong Miners' Union man and would naturally vote for the Labour candidate, discovered that according to the arrangement of the polls he would have to vote at the O.B.U, Hall. "Whatt" he asked, "ex- pect me to go into the 0sB.U. Hall? Nothing doing! I never entered an O. B.U. Hall and 1 never will. I'd soon- er lose a dozen votes." And nothing could stir him from this stand. "Gentlemen, it is our ambition to make this the greatest and purest amateur organization in the world, but it is not for quantity, it is for quality we are striving. We must keep it clean: cleaner in the future than in the past. In expanding:, keep elean what we have; keep out the doubtful players; keep them out until we know they are right, and it is you men that are here to-day that must see to it." In his annual address to the 0.H.A. at Toronto on Saturday last, Presi- dent Copeland, of Midland, among other things said :--'"The new resid- ence rule in the constitution elimin- ates the tourist, who in the past has been a pest to our Association. So important was this rule that the Carr. adian Amateur Hockey Association adopted it at their last annual meet- ing.', which is proof of its value, and I must now congratulate therExeeutive on the firm stand they took on this matter, all for the betterment of. the players and the O.H.A."
