A ‘Yive wire‘‘ would be expected to cause trouble at Lisâ€" keard, and last week one certainly did. So much so, indeed, that the hiuâ€" morous references herewith are more to hide feelings rather than to make licht of a serious matter. The New i1ast Issue Of LAAL PApPCE .~â€"â€" ‘*‘During the afternoon of Wednesâ€" day men einployed by the Power Comâ€" pany were engaged in making power connections with the Howie Block, on Whitewoodâ€" Ave., for the Liskeard Dairy Company, when a man named Carmichael, while on the second cross arm of the pole, and 25 feet from the ground,, touched a live wire. Both arms were terribly burned, and he fell to the ground. He was taken to the Hospital, and sufferedâ€"very much. Everything which can be done for him is being done. The Preâ€" mier is accused of advising Northern Ontario to steer clear of the secession movement. ~He had the assurance to sugegest that to secede would involve too heavy an expense on the tax bearâ€" ers of the North Land. He referred to the expense of legislative . buildings and getting a new organization to run the nronosed new Province. It may be the proposed new Province. 1i may De replied that the new Province need not go in for $200.00 rugs and $175.00 easy chairs for its ministers, or buy automobiles without tender. Indeed, it would be to avoid_ that very sort of thing that secession from the, older part of the Province would be made. As for the taxâ€"payers, they would be settino something for their monevy, it wOul thing t part of As for getting something for their money, and their money would be spent in the North Land where it was collected. Up to the present time the taxes, dues, royalties, ete., etc., ete., have been collected from the North Land and spent for the benefit of the farmâ€" ers of the south. The impetus to thought of secession comes largely from the fact that the North Land is being systematically bled in the way of taxation and undernourished in the matter of expenditures. Unless there is a change the North Land will have the eream of its resources gone for the advantage of the south. The Preâ€" mier may take what stand he wishes on the secession auestion, hbut this Up dues been and ae proposed eplied that 0t go in for secure blessin mier.
