LNhe ADITIOT COIMâ€" pany took opportunity of the shutâ€" down for a great deal of otheb' necessâ€" ary: work, such as repairs and new tonstruction work. The men also took advantage of the occeasion for holiday visits, gardening, ete., etc., and fishing for large fish and larger fish stories. As a result of the attttude of the mfi: and the company, inconvenience was reduced to the veryâ€"minimum. After the Committees had been in conference for a couple of weeks without apparently coming any nearâ€" er to an agreement, the suggestion was made that work be resumed pending arbitration of the difference, the men to go back to work while the arbitration was in progress. A second Committee went to New York from Iroquois Falls after this proposal had been made. For a time it appeared as if this suggestion would not help out the situation. On Tuesday of last week, however, telegrams were receivâ€" ed at Iroquois Falls by the company and by the Papermakers‘ Union and the Machinists‘ Union saying that an agreement had (been reached and to start the mill at onée. The Phperâ€" makers and Machinists according reâ€" ported for work on Wednesday mornâ€" ing and the mill started again at 8 a.m. that das. The Pulp & Sulphite Union at the Falls did not receive the telezram to resume work until Wedâ€" ussday, and the men of this Union started work again Wednesday afterâ€" ugon. ‘Consequently,; Wednesday £â€" ternoon of last week the Abitibi plg‘nt was going again at full blast. The agreement under which the men have resumed work is based on the nlaw it *ha"man Being\l)aid at the plan of the men Being paid at the same rate as previous to.the closeâ€" down, a finalâ€"settlement to Be made in the matter of wages~ Pending this Anal â€" settlement, arrangements for which are now under way, the men continue at work on the old wage sceales. » * CALEDONIAN SOCIETY HOLD CRUISE ON MINGA The evening sail on the Steamer Minga for members of the Caledonian Society of Timmins on Thursday evening last proved a most enjoyable event. About 35 members of the Soâ€" ciety took in the sail and a delightful evening was spent on the (Mattagami. The Minga is unusually well equipped for such an event, and Mr. Power, the @aptain, and the other officers of the boat did all possible to make the trip a suecess and a pleasure." The cruise included a run up the river past Col. included a run up LiE IiVCL pPdat DL Worthington‘s ‘and a trip down the river for a few miles. There was a gramophone o board for the occaâ€" sion, and the Society also saw to it that there was lots of singingâ€"Scotâ€" tish songs naturally predominating. The music sounded particularly pleasâ€" ing on the water, and both when goâ€" ing down the river and when returnâ€" ing to the dock there were many gaâ€" thered along the river attracted ~by the music. After the singing of Auld Lang SvÂ¥vne as the ‘Minga was dockâ€" thered dalong the river attracted by. the musio. After the singing of Auld. Lang Syne as the Minga was dockâ€" mg, the gathering dispersed with the idea of having another evening sail on the Minga at an early date. The evenâ€" ing was a particularly pleasant one for a sail. There were the many comâ€" forts that the Minga affords, and not a drawback,â€"not even theâ€"fly or mosâ€" quito to annoy. (Mt. J. K. Moore tooked after the trip and dyl the work well.
