Max Levine capâ€" tained one team as well as pitching for them, while ‘"‘Lefty‘‘ Farr pitchâ€" ed, captained and talked for the other team. Some of Pikie‘s decisions alâ€" most made ‘‘"Lefty‘‘ keep quiet. The boys had not gotten into their swing for the season, though some of the oldâ€"timers played such good ball as to prove they must have been thinking baseball in the long months of cold weather. . Bruce Pilsworth, for exâ€" ample, made some spectacular catches and showed regular midâ€"season skill, ‘The crowd that gathered enjoyed the practice game. It was great exercise for the players and the spectators alike, the latter getting fine practice in the words and ideas of "‘"Kill the u»mpire!‘‘ ‘"You‘re rotten!‘‘ ‘‘How do .you get that way!‘‘ ‘"Have a heart!‘‘ and so on,. «4 THF PDACGUPNE ADVANCE i8 . D. Forrester and Mr. Geo. Moore, and the chorus being attractâ€" ive and pleasing. ‘‘Mammy,‘‘ was a very popular item on the programme, the singing of Mrs.:J. K. Moore, Mr. Snow and Mr. Street bringing much wellâ€"meritâ€" ed applause. * The costumes for the various numâ€" bers were especially good, and the staging left nothing to be desired. As a musical comedy, the event in every way outelassed the average musical comedy by professionals. The directâ€" or, Mr. Bird, the Daughters of the Empire, and all in any way concernâ€" ed with the suc¢ess of the ""‘Girl in Red‘‘ deserve the greatest credit for the presentations here. n2 Old Another special was ‘‘Poppyland"‘ in which Mrs. Moore took the solo part, and was assisted by a wellâ€"trainâ€" ed chorus.
