The seventh school yegar of the Free English Language School for Finnishâ€" speaking adults ended Monday evenâ€" ing, May 22nd, when the students gathâ€" ered at the home cf their teacher, Rev. A. I. Heinonen, 53 Rea street South, Timmins. The evening was spent in a social way, ‘The situdents provided a tasty lunch. Mrs. Heinonen, Miss Ellie Heinonen ard Rev. Heinmen were "guests of honour". A singâ€"song consisting of Finnish folk songs in English was much enâ€" joyed. Miss Ellie Heinonen presided at the organ, The students also surâ€" prised Mrs. Heinonen and their teacher Wwith a well filled purse as a "token of theit gratitude ard estsem." Mrs. A. Koski made the presentation on behalf of the student body, speaking of the "great benéfit the school has been to the students." Heinonen, who was taken completely by surprise, replied suitably, speaking of the pleasure he had experienced in teaching such an enthusiastic and hardworking body of students. It was decidecd to open the eighth school year in Timmins on Monday, October 2nd, and in South Porcuping on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, During the past seven school years a total of more than three hundred Finnishâ€"speaking adults have taken advantage of this opportunity to learn the language of their adopted new homeland, its best and noblest traâ€" ditions and its greatest leaders. The students have also now been able *o take a worthy and intelligent part in the life of their adopted country. Lawley Welcomed Here Last Week Mr. D. B. Lawley, Supervisor of Pield Services for the National Institute for the Blind, and Mrs. Lawley were in Timmin$s last week and were given hearty welcome here. Mr. Lawley has been a frequent visitor here in connecâ€" tion with his duties, and both he and Mrs. Lawley have made hosts of friends in townâ€" and dGistrict. It is many monthns since the last previous visit of Mr. Lawley. Last year Mr. Lawley was unable to visit here on account of the illness of Mrs. Lawley, who underwent a serious operation just at the time of last year‘s campaign here. All are pleased to see that Mrs. Lawley is reâ€" stored to perfect health.
