Daffodil Tea is Planned by W.A. of First United On Thursday afternoon last, Mr. T. Coulson presided over the montlily meeting of the First United Church Women‘s Association held in the church basement. 4 Guest speaker for the day was Miss E. Webster V.ON, who gave an interâ€" esting and instructive talk on the work of the order. During the business portion of the meeting the ladies were remined of the Daffodil Tea under the auspices of the W.A. of First United Church, which takes place Saturday April 15th in the church basement. The devotional perâ€" iod was conducted «by Mrs. A. Jackcon and centred around the Easter seasgon. At the conclusion of the busines portion of the meeting, a vocal solo "The Holy City," was rendered by Mrs W.AJardine. accompanied by Mrs. Gamble at the piano. The meeting closed with the singing df the National' Anthem. 1 _ f Stifling Smoke Made Fighting of Fire Troublesome Of the eight ‘fire calls in the past week four were for harmless chimney and pipe fires, Another was a call to help a lady who had accidentally lockâ€" ed herself out of the house. A kitchen range too close to the wall resulted in a call to 126 Wilson avenue on Tuesâ€" day this week. Seven Other Fire Calls Durâ€" ing the Past Week. There were two actual firesâ€"both difâ€" ficult to fight but speedily comnquered by the firemen. On Thursday evening at 8.25 a man passing the T. A. Richardson building noticed smoke coming from the upstairs, windows and he promtly notiâ€" fied the fire hall. The fire appeared to have started in a cabinet in Dr. Barry‘s offices. The stifliing smoke made it a hard fire to fight, but it was not long before the firemen had it conquered. Considerable damage resulted, loss beâ€" ing covered by insurance. Sixth Victory Loan Organization for Cochrane District For the past couple of weeks the Vicâ€" tory Loan staff, with Organizer N. L. MacNames, have been busily and effectively at work with the necessary preliminary activities for the Sixth Vic tory Loan, which opens officially on April 24th. The Cochrane Unit Sixth Victory Loan Organization is estabâ€" lished at their headquarters at 39 Third avenue. The fact that the quarters are shared with the Timmins Army and Air Force Recruiting Unit under No. 4 Area command is another suggestion of the coâ€"operation existing between different branches of the war effort. on Thursday night last, under Chairâ€" man Harold F. Burt, some thirty memâ€" bers of the Public relations division met to strike committees.
