Ankeriteâ€"goal, Brownlee: defence Dixon, McCann: centre, H. Carnegie _ Chuck Jemmett, Hollinger mentor, used some new strategy on Friday night and it worked very nicely. For the last ten minutes of the game he inâ€" structed his players to go on an allâ€" oui deiensive and they did. The Bisâ€" ons roared into the Hollinger defensive zone timg and again but every time the Greenshirts would blast the pill out â€"to the centre zone again and reâ€" lieve the pressure on Bentley. The Bisons were strengthened on the defence by the addition of Harold Johnston, former McIntyre defenc>â€" man, whom they acquired as a military replacement for Jerry Heibert, who left for the army a couple of weeks ago. The big blonde defenceman showed his worth as he ‘got assist for two of the Ankerite goals and plaved a real heavy game at the blue line. ‘"Wink" Wilson showed up well for the Greenshirts again and flashed the red light for the winning marker after going scoreless for the previous game. The lingâ€"ups were: Hollingerâ€"goal, Bentley: defence, Echwab, McKay:; centre, Haflidson: wings, Stewart and W. Wilson: alterâ€" nates, Williams, R. Wilson, Baker, Delâ€" monte, Horbul, Wickens. The third> pe started when the again and then Greenshirts wen! last time. The Greenshirts were desperate when they started the game and right from the first whistle they kept the pressure on till it paid off. Haflidson finally netted the first counter about halfway through the canto and then the Greenshirts settled back and lifted the pressure for the rest of the period. In the second period Alex Stewart sent them two ahead but before the period had ended the score was tied again. In the last few seconds of the second period the Greenshirts let out a burst of power that sent them one ahead again. McLaughlin Trophy Competition The following is the personnel of the rinks entered. Alex Brownlee has provâ€" en his weight in gold to the Buffaloâ€"Ankerite Bisons this season and on Monday night he finished off his last playâ€" off game with a shutâ€" out, his second of the vyear. All through the season â€" Brownlee h a s been â€" called upon to stem vicious attacks by opposing â€" forwards and most of the season he was playing without the regular Rison team in front of him. His work was appreciated more than ever as he conâ€" tinued to turn in winâ€" ning games with an in iury_riddled club in front of him. Brownlee playved for Dome last yvear and in between seasons changâ€" ed clubs with Davey K emp. Welt, K. Kilborn, G. W. Mc C l h The trophy that will be competed for is the huge White Label trophy and smaller cups will be presented to the winners and runnersâ€"up. Winner of the cup last year was A. Giacommazzi, of the Seven Up team. It was decided that the runnersâ€"up in each of the league‘s competitions will be presented with cups this year instead of medals. It was discovered that the cups could be purchased just as cheaply as the medals and it was thought that the recipients would apâ€" preciate the cup rather than the medal. C. Lafferty A meeting of the Timmins Dart League was held at the Russell Hotel last Sunday afternoon to organize the singles competition that ~will start shortly. ‘Captains of each of the teams in the league were present as well as members of the executive. Burnes, L. land, ‘Ken Hulme Dt. : A. . ~HuC It was decided that the singles comâ€" petition would get under way next week and the captains were given a week to get the names of the members of their teams who wanted to compete. It was decided that a fee of fifty cents would be charged to each of the conâ€" testants and a War Savings Certificate would go with the winning cup. Last year the entry fee was twentyâ€"five cents. Pickering took his game from Dr. Smith. Pickering then won the final from Dr. Hudson to take the trophy. T. Tod defeated F. Cooper of the South Porcupine ‘Club to gke the Dome Curling Club Trophy and also to get himself into the final event. In the fourth event P. J. Doyle of the McInâ€" tyre Club was successful in defeating Herman Moscoe of the McIntyre Club. but it was the Hollinger team that showed the speed all through the game and though they had a big edge in the play they failed to get their sights lined on the Ankerite goal. It was a tough decision for the hardâ€" working Greenshirts to lose and a nice one for the Bisons to win. All through the regular season the same two teams dished up the best hockey of the schedule when they clashed and the Winners of the first two events, the Marshallâ€"Ecclestone and the Fairhurst, along with the runnersâ€"up in the same events and the winners of the other two events, the Dome Curling Club Trophy and the G. R. White Trophy, were grouped together in a knockâ€"out competition to decide this year‘s chamâ€" pion. Besides winning the Timmins Curlâ€" ing Club Cup, A. W. Pickering won the Bonspiel‘s first event, the Marâ€" shallâ€"Ecclestone Trophy, when he deâ€" feated Dr.â€" Tou O i hn the final. ‘Gscar Henderson of the South Porcupine Club won the second event of the ‘spiel, the Fairhurst Trophy, by defeating Dr. R. P. Smith of the Mcâ€" Intyre Club. All four of those teams entered the Timmins Curling Club competition. schedule when they clashed and the fans who figured that there would be good competition in the finals didn‘t guess wrong. In the four games that the two clubs playved in the finals thers was a difference of only two goals in the total scores and each of games was won by a oneâ€"goal margin. The Greenshirts carried most of the play on Monday night and even in the first two periods when they had only five shots at the Ankerite net they held their own with the Herd in the play. The Hollinger shots weren‘t goâ€" ng near the goal, though, but were ending up in the corners and they couldn‘t seem to get a good power atâ€" tack organized. During one of the penalties the Greenshirts threw on a power attack that kept the puck bottlâ€" ed up in the Ankerite end of the rink for the entire two minutes but they failed to get one shot at the net. Russ Bentley was called upon to save more than his share of rubber in the that they won was the Timmins Curlâ€" ing Club Cup and the competition was the last of the Porcupine Curling Bonâ€" shpiel. i. . * # .“. ## *# w * $ #4 #* # L3 ## #©. * 0“0 ## t * * '”.QQ. #% # # ## /\ 0“. *# .“’0 O.N.“.“. * *Â¥ Â¥ * # * *s #4 # *# ## # # #* w # #* ® # ## # # 44 # # ## # # #4 # # s ul uts * 2* “.00..0.... # ## + #4 *# + #. ®. * .00.00. #. * .““ * * (% "% ve*es* #* *, #* * 300 PREFERRED STANDING ROOM Tickets will go on sale at 4.00 o‘clock Day of Game. While Hollinger ganging attacks were in proâ€" gress the Bisons would break away and bear.in, on Bentley only to be stopped at the goalâ€"mouth. It was an. Ankerite penalty that paved the way for the first goal of the game about five minutes after the secâ€" ond period had started. Nols Dixon was chased for bodving Petrucet and while he was off the Hollinger team went into action. They tried power attacks and failed and just as Dixon stepped back to the ice the Greenshirts rolled into the Ankerite zone on anâ€" other driving attack. Bill Lahti snarâ€" ed a loose puck near the blue line durâ€" ing the attack and he saw Bob Young ahead of him so he flipped the dise ahead. Young roared in on Bentley with nobody to stop him and drove the rubber in. During the third period the Hollingâ€" er club tried hard to get the equalizer but they didn‘t have the breaks around the nets. They didn‘t seem to have much trouble getting the rubber as far as the goal but they couldn‘t punch the rubber in. About halfway through the period Alex Stewart missed a fine thance to score as he raced in towards the net but was tripped by Dixon. There was considerable difference in the number of shots on goal with Ankerite having thirtyâ€"four shots at the Hollinger citadel and the Gtgenâ€" shirts firing fourteen at the Ankerite net.
