Christmas Donations by Women‘s Institute ially delightful reading entitled "Santaâ€" Claus and Uncle Ben‘‘, by Mrs. James Prentice, was a feature of the afterâ€" ncoon. A word contest, for which the prize was a cup and saucer, was won by the president, Mrs P. G. Howard. Plans were made to pack a box for the sailors of the ship, "Gaspe", which was adopted by the Institute some time ago, and it whs decided to meet at the home of Mrs. C. Briggs at 19 Commercial avenue, on Friday afternoon. <The members are asked to turn in all completed work, so that these bales may contain the necessities or the sailors. Also, all workers are asked to bring the finished quilts, so Christmas donations to various serâ€" vice organizations were made at ‘the regular meeting of the Women‘s Instiâ€" tute held on Wednesday afternoon in the Hollinger hall, with the president, Mrs. P. G. Howard, in the chair. These donations included one to the Sick Children‘s Hospital, to the Russian Red Cross fund, to the Red Shield of the Salvation Army, and to the Bombed Victims‘ Pund. The Rouynâ€"Noranda Retail Merâ€" chants Association is petitioning the mines in the Rouyn camp to pay their employees every second Thursday, inâ€" stead of the 10th and 25th of the month. The merchants say that if the change is not too inconvenient for the accounting staffs it would be a benefit to merchants and to employees of the mines. S. Noble, has been elected mayor for fifâ€" teen successive years, fourteen of them by acclamation. Mr. Noble was formâ€" erly a resident of Timmins, being manâ€" ager here of the Northern Canada Power Co., and serving on the town council here.
