Under the leadership of Ron Jones, the men sang splendidly and were given a grand reception. Mr. 'W. G,. Skinner acted as chairman for the concer; and told the audience that to date over $5,000 had been sent from the local fund to the Lord Mayor of London‘s Pund. The Ukrainian Naâ€" tional Dance in costume by eight young people from Timmins was remarkably \ well done and received well merited | applause. The clever clowning of Wilâ€" lie Allen and T. Thomas, of Dome Ex., lwa.s one of the highlights of the proâ€" gramme and was really very smart comedy. The duet, ‘"Madame Will You Walk" was excellently put on. The programme was as follows:â€"Choir â€""In Absence"â€"â€"and "Comrades in Arms." W. Edwards, piano selection | (Mr. Edwards is a splendid pianist). | Tenor solo, "Sunshine of Your Smile," \ by N. Fortin. Choir, ‘Dear Land of | Home," and "Soldiers‘ Chorus from | Paust." Bass solo, by E. Williams. Comic selection, W. Allen and T. Thomas. Duet, Ron Jones and J. Jones. â€"â€" Choir, Home.‘" ‘ALlâ€" !thcugh the audience was not large it was mosit appreciative, and it is too bad that more Oof our town‘s real !music-lovers were not present to hear | this truly great choir of men‘s voices. | The outstanding quality of the choir is its real love of good music as well as its ability to produce it. One had the impression that _ men would have sung equally well for the sheer love of the beautiful tones they proâ€" | duced, if the hall had been empty. \Smart C WSP. girls ushered at the ! concert â€" Capt. Ewing, Sgt. Beulah Rayner, Irene Turner, Vern Rayner, and Vera Connors. | _ The Ladies‘ Guild of the United Church held their annual meeting on | Tuesday in the United Church buildâ€" iing. Reports on a most successiful | year were given by different officers of the Guild. Mrs:â€"C. H. Libby was unanimously reâ€"elected to office as preâ€" | sident after completing her fourth | year of splendid sprvice. Mrs. Dan Reed was elected first viceâ€"president; Mrs. Melville, second viceâ€"president; 'Mrs. Carl Carruthers, secretary; and Mrs. Tom Wilson, treasurer. There was a good attendance at this meeting. Other News from South Porcupine and the Dome. Rev. J. A. Lyttle with Rev. R. S. Laidlaw, of TIroquois Falls, and Rev. W. Mustard, of Timmins, attended a meetâ€" ing at Matheson on Wednesday lasit on Presbytery business. South Porcupine, Dec. 10â€"(Special to The Advance)â€"The first anniversary of the new United Church of Porcuâ€" pine was celebrated on Tuesday (Dec. 2nd) by a turkey supper held in the basement of the building.
