H. Porcupine Last Week Last Wednesday evening the Nurses‘ Residence at the Porcupine General hospital was the scene of a very pretty miscellaneous shower for Miss Ethel Jones, R.N.. who is to become the bride of Mr. J. Phillips of the Dome, at the end of this week. Miss Jones. has been on the n,ursing staff of the hospital for.some time, and all the nurses were present for the shower, as well as friends from Schuâ€" nacher and Timmins. The residence was prettily decorated in white, pink and blue for the occaâ€" sion, and the gifts which were both useful and valuable, were piled into a sleigh which a Santa Claus dreéew in and presented to the guest of honour. The death of Lorne Johnson, aged 28, of 55 O‘Brien avenue, South Porcuâ€" pine, took place ‘om Saturday last ‘in Porcupine General hospital.. The following was noted on Novemâ€" ber 18th in a Toronto daily paper.â€" 4 % Wing Commander Mark H. Brown, DS.C., of the RA.F., is missing after air aperations. He has more than twenty Axis planes to his credit. He was a member of No. 1 Fighter Squadâ€" ron of the R. A. F. at the outbreak of the war and participated in the first air fights in France." He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Brown, of Glenboro, Manitoba, and is the nephew of Mr. J. C. Brown;of S:rachan Ave., South Porcupine. The family were notified that he was missâ€" ing, by the Air Ministry on November 12th, and have heard nothing defimte since that date. The thirtyâ€"eightâ€"yearâ€"old man died here shortly after sight o‘clock vesterday morning. About sevenâ€"thirty yesterday mornâ€" ing the Timmins police were called to 12 Carlin avenue for assistance. When they arrived they found that Mr. Corâ€" rigan had slashed his throat with a razor blade. At the time that the pclice arrived Mr. Corrigan was being treated by Dr. H. G. Metcalfs. Shortâ€" ly after eight o‘clock the man died. Dr. H. L. Minthorn was then called to the scene and after examination he decided that no inquest would be held. Police said that they discovered that the man had been despondent for scme time previous to the unfortunate incident. When they arrived at the hous> the injured man was still mumblâ€" ing and talking. Mrs. Corrigan said tha; her husband had got up early and gone to the bathroom. He had been there for about ten minutes and she thought that there was a strange quietness s3 she went to investigate. It was thenâ€" that she discovered her husband on the ficoor with his throat slashed. She immediately phoned for a doctor and the police. The late Mervyn Corrigan was a reâ€" sident of Timmins for a number of years and at the time of his death he was employved at the McIntyre Porcuâ€" pine Mines where it is understood he was a spare shifter. He leaves to surâ€" vive him a wife and {wo children. Funeral services were held at the Penticostal _ Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 oclock, for the late Mrs Annis Church, who passed away at her home, 47A Wilson avenue, on Sunday, November 23rd. The remains rested at Walker‘s Funeral Home until 11 o‘clock on Wednesday morning, when they were taken to the church. The late Mrs. Church was seventyâ€" three years old.
