A nice crowd danced to the music oOf the Mac Ambassadors, around 150 couples enjoying the fun. This is the first dance put on by the Hockey Club in years, and as this was such a success they hope to have more during the season. Messrs O. Colin Robinson left on Saturday to take a. two months‘ practical course of study at the Toronto School of Raâ€" dio,. Colin deserves much credit as he has recently passed his qualifying examination unaided except by a corâ€" respondence course in radio engineerâ€" ing. He hopes to become proficient as a ship‘s radio engineer. Dr. W. G. Woods, of the Dental Corps, spent Thanksgiving at his home here returning on Monday evening to Camp Borden. * Mr. Nelson Laxton, Township saniâ€" tary inspector left on Saturday for two weeks‘ vacation in Richmond Hill. Mr. Ed. Lambert, of the Dome office staff, left this week for two weeks‘ holiday in Hamilton. Mr. Ben Schultz, who has been unâ€" dergoing medical treatment at Gravenâ€" hurst, spent Thanksgiving in South Porcupine at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Rayner. His many friends were glad to note the very great improveâ€" ment in his health, and trust that it will continue. He left on Wednesday for the Sanitarium. He will play hockey this season on the college team. Over forty parcels are to be packed and sent off in good time for Christmas reâ€" ception and the Comfort Fund ladies will be busy. Ewing returned on Sunday from Toronto, where as a delegate she attended the 14th annual convention of the ladies of the Legion held in the King Edward Hotel last week. Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Hodgins, of Shawville, visited friends in town on Friday. They are spending a few days with their daughter, Mrs. G. Emerson, at the Hallnor Mine. Miss Dorothy Walker left on Monâ€" day for Lindsay, having accepted a position in that town. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Lang returned on Saturday from two weeks‘ holiday in the Ottawa Valley. Miss Winifred Appleby and Miss Mcâ€" Fadyen of the Public School staff spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Toronto. Miss K. Woodall and Miss D. Cornett of the Public School staff, were the guests of Mrs. Bruce Smith, of Larder Lake, for Thanksgiving. Miss Rose Donlevy spent the Thanksâ€" giving holiday in Kirkland Lake. The Italian ladies of the Catholic Church cooked a spaghetti supper on Sunday which was served in the Kiâ€" wanis hall to nearly three hundred people. This venture was sponsored by the Catholic Men‘s Club and proved to be a marvellous success, the supper novel and splendidly cooked as only the Italian people can cook spaghetti. The men assisted both in cooking and serving the supper. The committee in charge consisted of Mr. and Mrs. James Cattarello, Mr. and Mrs. D. Cattarello, Mrs. Gallai, Mr. J. Crema, Mr. Angelo Basso, Mr. L. Truant and Mr. Pete Campagnola. Demonstrations of holding a pyâ€" rene extinguisher to put out a fireâ€" the usi> of "foamite" and the famous "fogâ€"nozzle," were used on a fierce gasoline fire on the school grounds, the Pire Chief using a micaphone to tell the ecrowd the action of the various chemicals used. A pit dug in the sand and partly filled with highly mable oil and gasoline was the scene of a very fierce blaze which was quickâ€" ly subdued by the "fogâ€"nozzle." Previous to the demonstration a special fire prevention tak had been given to the public school children. Fire Prevention Demoanstration Held at South Porcupine The new extension ladder was placed in position against the school and Fireâ€" men Joe Miller mounted in double quick time and "rescued" Fireman Pacione from the third storey window, using the special fireman "hold" on the "unconscious victim" and then went up again and made another "rescue" from the roof. Funeral service was held Wednesday morning at nine o‘clock in St. Alphonâ€" sus Parish Church for Moseées L‘Amourâ€" eux of the Coniaurum Property who passed away Sunday after a short illâ€" ness. Mobile Unit is Meeting With Success for Recruits Skating in Full Swing at South Porcupine Arena South [Porcupine, Oct to The Advance. Skating at the Arena is in full swing this week and is being well patronized over two hundred taking in the sport on opening Mr. George Johnâ€" son has been appointed in charge of the rink, and it is mainly due to his work and efforts that the skating seaâ€" son has made such an early start. Educaâ€" tional requirement for pilots is having obtained their junior matriculation and for air gunners and observers it is at least two years‘ high sshool education. Pilot Officer Lamothe said that the medical examiner, Flying Officer Wilâ€" son, is equipped to give a candidate practical all of his examination here. Only the Xâ€"Ray tests have to be taken in North Bay. All trade tests can be performed here. The unit in Timming at the present time is the best equipped unit that has operated out of North BRay since the plan was started. Assisting Pilot Officer Lamothe and FElying Officer Wilson are Sergeant L. Nutwall and LAC Cliff Dorania. Recruiting wil} continue till noon on Saturday when the unit will leave Timâ€" mins for other southern points. The unit is stationed in the basement of the Post Office and is open daily from 9 am. till 5 pm.
