S. of Timmins Finnish United Church, PFriday, Sept. 27th, at 7:30 p. m., Mr. Ossian Walli, B. Sc., FP. C. 1. C., was the special speaker, giving a very interesting lecture on "Identification of Minerals," and showing a wonderâ€" ful collection of specimens of rock in connection with his talk,. The lecturer | outlined several scientific methods by which minerals are spotted. Aithough specimens had been brought from many | distant parts of the world, as shown ‘by exhibited collection, they followed ‘umnistakeabbly the same characterisâ€" iticfl as to shape of crystal, weight, etc. After the lecture a great number of questions were made by the young people and these were answered by the lecturer. Practically the entire memberâ€" ‘ship of th Y. P. S. from Timmins and South Porcupine were persent, also several older people and parents, and all were deeply interested in the fine lecture given by Mr. Walli. After the lecture Rev. Heinonen on behalf of the Y. P. S. thanked the speaker for his lecture. Educational Night at Finnish Y.P.S. Interesting Event Informative Address by Mr.]! Ossian Walli on "Identiâ€", fication of Minerals." | Rev,. A, T. Heinonen introduced the speaker, who had attended his Sunday Sschool and Vacation School at Copper Cliff, Ont., starting more than twentyâ€" seven years ago, when Mr. Walli was eleven years old and when Mr. Heinâ€" onen had charge of the mission work among Finnish and Swedishâ€"speaking new Canadians of Northern Ontario, with headquarters at Copper Cliff. At his graduation from the Technical class of Sudbury High School, Mr. Walli won the International Nicksl Co. scholarship of $4000 as the best student that year. Mr. Walli is a graduate in chemical and metallurgical engineering of Queen‘s University, Kingston, and has taught in Port Arthur and Hamilâ€" ton High schools. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Chemistry. At present he is one of the new teachâ€" ers on the Timmins High and Vocationâ€" al sithool staff. The meeting was opened with the usual devotional period, conducted by Helge Hongisto and Ruben Peterson. Mrs. L. Punkari presided at the organ.
