Geppetto‘s pets are typical Disney characters. Figaro is a round mis chievous little kitten, and Cleo is a fluttery female goldfish. â€" Although neither talks, both Figaro and Cleo are capaible of human reasoning, and show it clearly in their actions. Monstro, the whale, is easily the bigâ€" gest actor ever to appear on a screen. Aiter all, when you reach the proâ€" portions of a threeâ€"storey building, you‘re not to be sneezed at. And inâ€" cidentally, it‘s some sneezing on Monâ€" stro‘s part that leads up to the exciting climax of the picture. Walt Disney‘s magic medium brings to the screen a strange array of new characters for "Pinocchio," the second fullâ€"length Disney production in Techâ€" nicolor. Humans, animals who might well be siisnan, and a live puppet withâ€" out strings rub elbows in an exciting geries of adventures. has come to life overnight. The puppet, whom Geppetto has named Pinocchio, has been vivified by the Blue FPairy in answer to Gepetto‘s wish, that he might lrave a son. Goppetto, an old toy maker, is just like any lovable old iman you might knmnow. He is no end startled when ht finds that the puppet he has created Jiminy Cricket, who is at the opposite end of the pole for size, is another charâ€" acter who dofinitely demonstrates the wonders of the animated picture, for little Mr. Cricket, no bigger than a thumbâ€"nail, wears clothes, talks, sings and dances. As a matter of fact, the Blue Fairy appoints Jiminy as Pinccâ€" chio‘s conscience, with the result that Jiminy is led on a merry chase, which includes the floor of the ocean. Adults as Well as Children Delighted With "Pinocchi0" These strange fusions of animal, huâ€" man and whimsy, convincingly preâ€" sented in Technicolor in the superh production "Pinocchio," released by RKO Radio, are being shown at the Cartier theatre all this week. J. Cronâ€" in, of "The Citadel" fame, is scheduled for the Cartier theatre Sunday Midâ€" night, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesâ€" day, March 31st to April 3rd, along with "Canada at War." wWith the greater part of its stirring action taking place in two English hospitals during the months just preâ€" ceding the current war, the story preâ€" sents Carole Lombard as a loyal nurse of high ideals, Brian Aherne as an humanitarian doctor, and Aunne Shirâ€" ley as Miss Lombard‘s younger sister, a student nurse who is temperamentally unsuited to her chosen profession. Disclosing a vivid insight into the behindâ€"theâ€"scenes work of nursing, "Vigil ir. the Night" traces the dramaâ€" tic experiences of Miss Lombard, startâ€" ing with her dismissal when she "asâ€" sumes the blame ifor her sister‘s negliâ€" gence which cost the life of a sick child. In another town she joins a hospital that is insufficiently staffed and equipâ€" ped. Here she meets Brian Aherne, a famous surgeon who becomes interâ€" ested in the nurse when her keen 0Dâ€" servation saves him from losing a patient on the operating table. When the nurse is involved in a bus accident, she again ccmes to the attenâ€" tion of the doctor, for she is obliged to assist him in an emergency operation at the scene of the crash. From these contacts a feeling of understanding is born which lays the foundation for 4a romantic asscciation. Other Feature "Canada at War," Under Auspices of the Legion. Notable Cast in the Film, "Vigil in the Night, at the Cartier Counterpointing the experiences of Miss Lombard are those of her sister, whose weakness involves her in several disasters. The story reaches its climax in an| isolation ward where a sudden epidemic is taking a heavy toll on patients and nurses. In this setting are depicted such dramatic events as the valiant struggle to conquer the disease, the risk Miss Lomibard takes in forging an order for much neceded medical supplies, and the heartâ€"touching sacrifice Anne Shirley pays to redeem herself. Directed and produced by George Stevens, "Vigil in the Night" features in supporting roles Julian Mitchell, Roâ€" bert Coote, Brenda Forbes, Rita Page and Peter Cushing. Fred Guiol, P. J.
