TERRY, PRINCIPAL FOR Phone 583 Timmins THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO A meeting of Timmins unemployed was held at the Town hall on Tuesday night under the auspices of the Timâ€" mins Citizens League."Ways and means were discussed of getting work for the jobless of Timmins so that they would be able to have some money at Christâ€" mas time. "There is always a limit to a man‘s patience," said Eugene Lafontaine, President. ‘"Where it is a matter of wives and children suffering that limit is liable to come sooner. Mayor Bartleâ€" man wrote the government about the lack of work here and receilved a reply that the ‘matter would be looked into at once.‘ Apparently they meéan to do nothing." Unemployed Ask Work be Provided Before Christmas Mr. Lafontaine said that there were many people in Timmins who were drawing relief and who should not be getting it. On the other hand, there were many who should be on relief and were not. Counciilor Spooner, who was present at the meeting, was praised by Mr. Laâ€" fontaine., "Apparently the other Counâ€" cillors, all of whom were invited, did not think the unemployed good enough to associate with." "There is a Limit to a Man‘s Patience" Says Eugene Lafontaine. Asked to speak, Mr. Spooner told the audience of between seventyâ€"five or a hundred persons that there was no adâ€" vantaze in trying to get local improveâ€" ments at the present time. He exâ€" plained that before they could be started it would be necessary to pass several byâ€"laws and get permission from the Municipal Board. Even if permissjon was obtained it would be after Christmas by that time. Mr. Spooner suggested that several things might be done immediately by the Board of Works. One was the digâ€" ging of a ditch in the southern section of the town where it was badly needed to drain that area. Another was a simâ€" ilar ditch which was needed on Spruce Street, north. _A third project might be to clean out the creek which flows through the northerly section of the town and a fourth to do work on the extremities of Hemlock, Ross‘ and Tamâ€" â€"A4IUULUL 1t Shavers $13.00 Other Electric Shayvâ€" ers priced from $5.00 4A *h Registered and guarâ€" anteed perfect. Replies to Critics Criticism of the Fire Department with regard to a call made early on Tuesday morning was refute« by the Fire Chief at the meeting. Councilior Warren said that he had heard the statement that it took the department twenty minutes to get its equipment to where there was a fire at 201 Pine street. He wanted the Pire Chief to reply to the claim. Fire Chief Alex Borland said that a telephone call was received at the fire hall at 4.55 am. on Tuesday. The message incorrectly said that the fire was at 21 Pine street. As that was in the business section both the pumper and the ladder truck went out. A minute later an alarm came in from Box 61 and he and another man startâ€" ed for the correct address. Passing the other men, said the Chief, he signalled them to follow. "I contend that the very worse time .
