Snking of the Britisth steamship Cairn Mona, 4,666 tons, is not explained very clearly in despatches. The sinking of the vessel, it is said, was dut to an "explosion," but the reason for the exâ€" plosion is not given.. A survivor is quoted as saying that the blast came without any warning. It is left to the imagination to figure out whether the loss of the vessel was due to enemy activity or to aczident. The latter af>â€" pears the more reasonable explanation. There were 41 men saved from the sinkinâ€"1 ship. William C. McDonald, of San Franâ€" c:szo, California, who recently visited Warsaw on behalf of the Tucker comâ€" mission for Polish relief, is quoted as : saying that reliable estimates place the | of dead through the sieze of Warsaw at the startling figure of 50.0CO0. That German fliers are not meeting with much success in their efforts to reach (Brita‘n for scouting or for ofâ€" fensive purposes is proven by the fact that this week the body of the third German aviator was washed ashore at Mundesley on Tuesday. One body had come ashore at the same place on Monâ€" day and a second body was cast up by the sea at Happisbun:z, which is near Mundesicy. Any such idea would be necessarily conâ€" tingemt on what may happen meanâ€" while. The coming session is expected io be monfined almost wholly to war measâ€" ures, apart from the regular requireâ€" ments. Tt might be concludedâ€"some thinkâ€"im» two months. ‘The noxt session of Parliament, opening in January, will be the last sessicn, from all appearances. Necesâ€" sarily, it would have to be unless the tenure is extended, and the actitn necessary to that is not propssed. The Britisch Parliament would have to legisâ€" late on the subject. One of the proposa‘s will be a bill to shorten the seven weeks‘ election notice by almo:t half by providing for the preparation of voters‘ lists before inâ€" stead of after dissolution. If such a plan were followed the election might be before the end of May. As he is domiciled in the province, Hon. J. L. Ralston, Minister of Finâ€" ance, is understcod to prefer a Quebec constituency for a seat in Parliament, and it is pretty well understood that Jacques Cartier will be ishosen. This would obviate opening: any seat by a member resigning.
