She mentioned the fact that the Society encouraged the children to be koept in their own homes, instead of becoming wards, and outlined other noteworthy facts in the work. Fire, attributed to a stove and pipes plagsed tco close to the woodwork, caused damage estimated at $300 at the> hame of R. Nogl, 140 Poplar street, shortly before ten o‘clock Tuesday night. Despite the fact that there are no hydrants in this area the fire deâ€" partment were able to extinguish the blaze with water from the booster pump on the new fire truck. The loss is covâ€" ered by insurance. Tuesday was a busy day for the fireâ€" men and in addition to the above alarm they answered five other calls for chimney fires. All were quenched without any property damage. During the evening Mr. Treoncer, church organist, sang: two selections, and was thanked for his contribution to the programme.
