Information sent to The Advanct last week was to the effect that the eccntract for applyingy clust.ayer to the back road between Tiunmins and South Porcupine lhad been awarded and the work will be done inwnediately. This will be good news for all who have to use the back road, as the dust has been a serious menace not only to health and comfort but to safety on the road. One mining man in a posiâ€" tion to know states that none of the miners underground are exposed. to anything like the same danger of silica dust as encountered in the clouds of dust blowing on the back road these days. The danger to traffic through the dust is still more menacing. It is sincerely to be hoped that the work of dustâ€"laying is completed, before a serâ€" jious accident occurs through the lack of visibility caused by the clouds of dust on the back road. At present, with the highway closed to traffic while paving operations are under way, the back road has to take all the traffic between Timmins and South Poreupine, and the chief danger is from the dust. Inâ€" formation from South Porcupine and Toronto alike is to the effect that Mr. Chas. V; Gallagher, M.P.P., has been most patient, persistent and earnest in pressing on the government the need for immediate action in having the back road made safe for traffic by apâ€" plying dustâ€"layer at once. Timmins and South Porcupine Kiwâ€" anians will gather this (Monday) evenâ€" ing, June 27, to join approximately 2,000 other, Kiwanis clubs in the Unitâ€" ed States and Canada in a continentâ€" wide observance of "ALLâ€"KIWANIS NIGHT." ° Throukhout the two counâ€" tries thesso meetings will be held simulâ€" taneously, as much as possible, and at a time synchronized with the schedule for a similar meeting of delegates to the annual convention of Kiwanis Inâ€" ternational in San Francisco, being held from June 26 to 30. inclusive. ternational in San Francisco, bering held from June 26 to 30, inclusive. D. B. Lawâ€" No Bagzage Checked The Northland Such was the advice given today by aura M. Walter, of Wyoming, Ohio, of the vocational guidance romimittee for Kiwanis International, whose program for 1938â€"39 urges greatâ€" *r experimental activity for young neople in all fields of employment. "In times when life was simple, ocâ€" »upations few and educational opporâ€" unities brief a choice of life work was not difficult. Now with increased specialization in a rapidly changing world, first jobs for youth are of vital ‘mportance in relation to their future he said. Aid Public Schools "Vocational guidance must be emâ€" Jhasized in our public schools. Kiwanis annot go into the schools and organize vocational guidance. That must be done by trained educators, but Kiwanis ‘an make a tremendcus contribution to this work. Kiwanians are not expert vocational men. We can promote; we rive to the schools a tremendous imâ€" cetus. The latest progress report of the Porcupine Lake Gold Mining Company Limited, sent to shareholders last week by H. H. Sutherland, viceâ€"president, reads as follows:â€" "On June 4th a partial cleanâ€"up was made and 98 Troy ounces removed from the mill circuit, with a gross value of approximately $3,100. It is estimated that there is approximately $2,000 tied up in the concentrates which will be marketed when a sufficient quantity has accumulated to make a shipment to the smelter. "Since the above report of June 20th was written, we have been advised by the manager that three rounds havs »een taken aut, results being as folâ€" lows: "Work on the 280 ft. level has conâ€" sisted of the putting through of a manway from this level to the surface, n accordance with the requirements of the Mining Act. On account of a manâ€" way having to be put up straight, it is not always possible to follow the ore, consequently a considerable amount of waste necessarily is broken into the Jre. Owing to the expense of sorting, all material broken is sent to the mill, which has the effect of reducing the grade of the ore at present being millâ€" ed . ‘csays taken over widths of 7" each icross the vein ran $21.00 and $15.40 respectively.
