King Carol on Stamps The latest minlature sheet to arrive in this country is a block of four stamps issued on (Oetober 25th by Roumania. This sheet was intended to commemâ€" orate the recent ‘promotion of Crown Prince Michael to the rank of subâ€" lieutenant in the Roumaman army, but instead of bearing Michael‘s porâ€" trait, as would naturally be expected, the sheet contains four current stamps picturing his father, King Carol! Posâ€" sibly Carol thought that Prince Michael‘s modest subâ€"lieutenant‘s uniâ€" form Iwould not look nearly so impresâ€" sive to foreign philatelists as his own resplendent plumes and epaulettes. It will be remembered that he elbowed his son out of the limelight once before on a much more momentous occasion in 1930, when his dramatic return from exile removed the youthful Michael from jthe throne of Roumania and placed him in the more humble role of Crown Prince.
