He was born in Cobalt in 1920, and was well known in recent years as an athlete showing interest in and talent in such sports as baseball and hockey. He was scheduled to play junior hockâ€" ey with the North Bay Trappers team this coming winter. He was a member of North Bay‘s bicycle club and a popâ€" ular member of the Liggett staff at North Bay. From 1921 to 1924 the famâ€" ily lived in Timmins and son are well known and highly esteemed here. The father, E. Kenney, has been on the T. N. O. staff for many years and at present is on the Timmins train run., In addition to the bereaved parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Kenney, the late Michael James Kenney is survived by three sisâ€" ters, Loretta, Margaret and Mary, and two brothers, Arthur and Jack, all of North ‘Bay. The funeral service took place on Monday of last week, July 26th, at 9 o‘clock at the Proâ€"Cathedral of the Asâ€" sumption, North Bay. Rev. J. Buchheit celebrated requiem high mass and Reyv. J., M. Leacey officiated at the graveside service. Interment was made in St. Mary‘s cemetery. Friends in Timmins of the young man himself and of the family will learn with the deepest regret and sympathy of the sad death of Michael James Kenney, of North Bay. This bright youhg man, on the staff of the Ligâ€" gett Drug Co., was going home from work on his bicycle at about 12.30 noon on July 17th, when he was struck by a truck and badly injured. He suffered a fractured skull, a fractured right shoulder and leg, and other injuries, and despite all that could be done to save his life he passed away on July 23rd. An inquiry is being ‘conducted into the circumstances of the accident that caused his death, as the young man was well known at North Bay as a capable and careful cyclist,. Funeral on Monday of Late M. J. Kenney "At the present time," continues the game warden, "we are about seven weeks before legal shooting can take place. At this time of the season there are always many young people who are out on summer holidays to the streams and lakes of the district. We welcome these young psople to fishing, but their parents, who are responsible for these young folks, are earnestly asked to be very cautious in regard to possible danâ€" gers. During the summer vacation there are no fireâ€"arms legally permitted in any parts of this area of the North. The help of parents and others is askâ€" ed to assure that fireâ€"arms will not cause needless or unnecessary loss of life or injury to property. For the proâ€" tection of the young people tuemselves, no less than for the protection of wild life in this part of the North the coâ€" operation of all is earnestly desired." Mr. Boudreau added that when ofâ€" ficers of the game warden‘s department on their patrols find anyone in posesâ€" sion of firearms, the weapons will be seized and court action will follow. Mr. Boudreau says that the game wardens do not like to bring people into court nor to seize weapons, but this has to be done in the line of duty. The laws are for the protection not only of ‘the fish and game but also for the safety and benefit of the public. He asks the coâ€"cperation of @all to have the law Oobâ€" served, fish and game protected and the public interests served to the beneâ€" fit of all and the injury of none. That‘s fair enough! Former Timmins Y oung Man Died as Result of Acâ€" cident. In an interview yesterday with Phil Boudreau, game warden for the district, special reference was made to the danâ€" ger from the 22 rifie. "Of various classes of firearms in use today," says Mr. Boudreau, "the .22 rifle presents the greatest problem to the game warâ€" dens in most parts of their districts. ts destructive power is not generally understood and because of this it is always a source of danger in the hands of the inexperienced. the young or the irresponsible. It is a serious menace to game conservation and it is the faâ€" vorite weapon of the poacher." The Kirkland Lake B‘Nai Brith Lodge acted as hosts to representatives of the lodge from Cochrane, Noranda, Rouyn. Sudbury and Timmins, at a picâ€" nic held in Culver Park at Kirkland Lake on Sunday. A large number of the members were present to take part in the thoroughly enjoyable day that their hosts had so kindly planned. A delicious lunch and other refreshâ€" ments were served, and at the end of the day there was not one who did not agree that the event had been a sucâ€" cess from all points of view. Races made un a large portion of the programme for the day, being mostly won by Timmins representatives, who also won the baseball game, and carâ€" ried home the cup which is the prize in this annual competition.
