Large Crowd Attracted to Donkey Baseball Games Mind is supposed to rule matter but after seeing the donkey baseball at the bal!~®park on Friday evening many of the huge crowd of spectators had reaâ€" son to wonder. The game was scheduled to be the Lions Club against the Legion but in reality it was the Lions Club and Legion against the donkeys. The stubâ€" Born little burros won. It would be hard to imagine an aniâ€" mal with more casualness, contrariâ€" ness and boredom packed into its sysâ€" tem than one of these trained ¢piâ€" mals. Their perverse little brains sesimâ€" ed to take a great deligh! in doing just the opposite to what the players wantâ€" ed. They ambled around the bases at a speed calculated to drive the players wild. Everybsody was taking an interest in the game excsut the asses and they were just tozs bored to want to do anyâ€" thinz in a rame is not Really Between the Legion and the Lions but Between the Legion and Lions and the Donkeys. The game consisted of three innings and a little wild west show after. Hansell decided, after it was all over that he was going to ride OIl‘ Pete, the meanest of the fourteen donkeys, that had not been ridden that evening. He sprang to Pete‘s back and tumbled ioff just as quickly. Another spring and |another tangle of arms and legs OI‘ Pete won two falls but Hansell> took ) the third one. In the last of the setond the Lions managed to come through with a couple. Legion added two more in the last and, the Lions got one. Rules of the game allowed a person to have as many strikes at the ball as he wished. After hitting the ball he was to ride one of the donkeys to first base. However before he could ride him he must first mount him and that was where many of the brave hearts turned to water. The burros just didn‘t want to be mounted. Their main ambition | was to relieve themselves of any burâ€" den whaisoeverâ€" and they did a very good job of carrying out that objecâ€" tive. If a batter failed to get on the deonkey allotted to him in two tries he was counted out. In other respects the rules were much the same as for baseâ€" ball except that the bases were three feet square and the ball had to be thrown from the donkeys‘ backs. Pitsher and catcher did not have donkeys. They were not allowed to leave their boxes however. 'L-i.ttle Long Lac â€" area, MacLeodâ€" ‘Ccckshutt Mines will shortly have unâ€" ‘ der way a 300â€"ton mill designed so as lto be readily enlarged to 500 tons ‘as required. Its immediate neighbor, Hard Rock Gold Minces, will erect a plant of ‘150 tons. Hollinger Gold Mines is to sink a new main shaft, on a threeâ€" year program that will carry the openâ€" ing to a depth of 4,000 feet in order to more economically mine its ore. In the Beardmore section, Leitch Gold Mines is raising the capacity of its mill from 75 to 100 tons daily, and Sand River Gold Mines has a 75â€"ton mill projected. In the Sudbury mining division two new producers have made their appearance recently in the Long Lake mine of Lebel Oro Mines and the INew Golden Rose at Emerald Lake, each with a 100â€"ton mill. Probably a score of other mining ecmpanies are iplanning mills or are ‘iarrangin.g to raise the rate of producâ€" | tion, indicative of the fact that above 'au else, there is plenty of confidence in the stability of the gold market, sufâ€" ficient to warrant the investment of i many millions in new capital. Present prospects seem good for other producâ€" ers in the district as development proâ€" ceeds. Ancther advance of moment is the decision of Pamour Porcupine Mines to double its milling capacity, from 750 tons to 1.400 or 1,500 tons daily. In the (From Sudbury Star) Steady development and increasing production of gold imines, new milling plants and projected additions to preâ€" sently cperating mills, supply unimisâ€" takable evidence that the industry has taken no notice of the widespread ruâ€" mors of a possibe cut in the price of gold and the injurious effect it would have upon mining. No matter what atâ€" titude the stock market took as a result of the soâ€"called "gold scare", the mines refused to be disturbed. In many sections of Northern Onâ€" tario and Northwestern Quebec the exâ€" pansicn goes on. One of the outstandâ€" ing developments resently was the anâ€" ncuncement that Kerrâ€"Addison Gold in the Larder Lake area is to construct a 5s00â€"ton mill, to be increased later to 1000 tons, marking another step in the startling revival of this area after The story came from union officials, who ccmplained because their members wouldn‘t attend .meetings. Whenever a meeting was called the coal company staged a competing attraction of burâ€" lesque queens, who danced and took off their clothes, and the miners stampeded to see them. Whatever the ethics of this method, it seems to be quite a shake ahead of having the deputy sheriffs go out "thuggin‘" for union crganizers. And it may be more effecâ€" tive for unionâ€"busting. Noranda, Aug. 3.â€"Francols KXavier (Frank) Cloutier met his death in vioâ€" lent manner while working at the Norâ€" anda Mines on Friday evening. At the formAl inquiry held into the tragedy on Saturday evening, by Dr. J. A. Bertâ€" rand of Macamic, it was impossible to arrive at the true cause of the accident, as the cnly witness of the ftality was one Amedee (Paddy) Vachon, who with Cloutier was shoveling ore muck into barrows at a sub level above the 30Câ€"fo0ot level (ore body 59). The two men were engaged in filling wheel barrows from the pile of rock and tcok it turn and turn about to fill the barrows and to dump the contents into the chute made to receive it. They changed work after every five barrows. Suddenly Disappears Atâ€"about 8.30 pm. Cloutier, who was wheeling his fourth barrowful on that particular relay, suddenly disappeared and his companion, some 30 feet away, was unable to say exactly what hapâ€" jened. What is rather mystifying is the fact that the whole of the staging or planking across the opening went down the aperture with the man. None Aware of Way F. X. In the hysteria of a panic that gripped all the world, they have called upon cfficials of the neighbourâ€" ing country to come here and tell them how to be honest, how to protect the public from speculative loss. The result has been just what they deserved and what the visiting diagnosticians most desired. A halt was called in developâ€" ment of the greatest potential mining empire to be found anywhere on livable earth and speculative funds turned back into the gapinz slots of United States gaming tables.
