This character of. ore has been followed for 100 feet, with average width feet. The main crosscut on the 250â€"foot level is now 96 feet south and 120 feet north of the centre line of the shaft. The 102 west drift on the 150â€"foot level from No. 2 shaft is still forging ahead and is now out about 600 feet west of the cresssut, carrying goud values. Inspection of developments at Uchi Gcld Mines, Patricia district, by Preâ€" sident J. E. Hammell and Mine Direcâ€" tcr Ben H. Budgeon, who have just reâ€" turfnied to Toronto, has been more than satisfactory, according to Mr. Hammell. The shait is, down to the 160â€"foot level, and resamplino of the 110â€"foot level is under way. It wasâ€"found that in the north drift of that level the vein was intersected by a dike, and that former cperators, instead oi cutting straight through the dike, which is postâ€"mineral, went arcund in a semiâ€" circle, with the face of the drift just getting back into the vein. Drifts on the vein aggregate around 300 feet, about equally divided between the north and south headings. Construction work has been practicalâ€" ly completed and a comfortable camp provided. Mining plant is in full operaâ€" tion, and it is expected that by July 1 the shaft will have reached its present cbjective of 625 feet. Sawmill is busy cutting cordwood and lumber. The mill recovery was 97.1% for the month of March with head $16.10 at $35.00 gold. "An extra switch has been installed at the 300 station which has greatly facilitated the mucking of ore on this level. The 800 raise will be finished byq the 10th inst. and it is confildently exâ€" pected that we will be able to develovn some extra rich ore from this point similar to that which was taken out in sinking the winze. The completion of the raise to the 100 foot level from 310 west stope and the driving of a drift from this stope east to the 310 east stope will allow the stoping of what is expected to be some very good ore under the main crossâ€"cut on the 100 foot level. The 510 east stope has shown some very good ore during the stoping operations for the month with considerable visible gold. This ore should show up in the grade of the mill head. Some work was done on the 312 vein and another box ho:e wiil shortâ€" ly be started on this vein where former work showed favourable gold. The 509 west drift was advanced during the month and gave encouraging assays. The ; 550 north crossâ€"cut is at present in very interesting rock formation." Says Britain has Perfect Air Defence Prepared (Halifax Chronicle) An almost unbelievable story is told of a new method by which Britain is able to deal with hostile planes. Years of effcrt have perfected a rangeâ€"finder, it is said, which has such accuracy that it will direct the shot from the antiâ€" aircraft gun unerringly to its target. It is electrically controlled, and the noment the range is found the shell starts on its deadly errand. It is all like a tale from witchcraft, and there have been so many tales told cf marâ€" vellous and almost uncanny inventions that it taxes credulity. In its still imperfect stages it was used in 1918. Fourteen German raiders made an attack on London, but all 14 fell before this uncanny device. From then on the airâ€"raiders kept away from Britain. Let the plane zigâ€"zag ever so much, even at a speed of 400 miles an hour, and yet this device will steer the shell unfailingly to its target. At mariceuvres, 15 shots were fired at 15 moving cbjects without a miss. The most we can hope is that it is true, and if it is true, the peril of the air will be conquered, and flying.may yet become what it was destined to be, one of the greatest blessings, instead o{â€"one of its potential deadliest curses.
