Hockey â€"Theriault, Margaret Gold Diggers Score First Goal; Lose in Last Frame Secring a goal in each of the second and last periods of last night‘s hockey game, South Porsupine Porkies took a 2?â€"1 decision from the battling Gold Diggers. Timmins had scored the Diggers. Timmins had scored the game‘s opening gcal in the first canto after a ragged start and Porkies added one in each of the successive periods while they held the locals scoreless. The game was the last one scheduled for these two teams this season and Porkies have had everything quite to the goal and picked the puck from inside the goal. He counted the goal even though the goal judge didn‘t flash his light. Quite an argument followed but the goal was allowed with Ray Morgan getting credit for the score. Porkies have had everything quite their own way in the series. They won all six games from the luckless Gold Diggers. The game last night wasn‘t like the usual Diggerâ€"Porkie encounâ€" ter. There were few penaltiee (only four minors) and the game prodused much better hockey than usual. Essletine the Main Cog Hobe Essletine was the main cog in Porkies‘ great hockey machine as he turned aside one Digger rush after another. Some of the stops he made were really sensational. In the first period when the Gold Diggers should have scored ,four or five goals they were held to the lone ane partly beâ€" cause of their ineffectiveness in front of the net, but mostly because Essleâ€" tine was playirg a grand game. The refereeirg was a bit on the poor side. In the last frame an offâ€"side atl the Timmins blue line when Clark batâ€" ted the puck from the goal and Morâ€" gan stopped it over the line started an argument. Referee Wilder wanted to brirg the puck back to the goal and face it off at the side. It should have been faced off at the blue line but Wilder won his point and the puck was faced at the goal. Offâ€"sides were called closely and naturally tended to slow up the game. Second Line More Effective Nineteen minutes of the {irst period Porkies tied up the game in the secâ€" ond pericd after 15 minutes on a faceâ€" off near the Timmirs nets. Miller and Haneberry had held the puck against the boards and play was stcpped to No Serious Arguing as Two Poreupine Rivals Meet for Last Time in N. 0. H. A. Schedule, Porkies‘ Sixth Straight Win from Locals. had gone before there was any score. Play had been ragged from the start. Plays couldn‘t get properly organized and were brcken up at centre ice. Very few plays crossed the line. The Gold Diggers‘ second line of McKinnon, Maâ€" lone and Utman were the most effecâ€" tive in the first carto, breaking in an Essletine only to be~«rcbbed of shots thas were ticketed. Woon and Malone were chased for bumping each other unnecessarily and play became very loose. a 106 Of arguing Young at the blue ed right in to take McKinnon was chased for tripping and Porkies‘ power play rolled into action. Five men skated inside the Timmins blue line but Bus Clark was unbeatable. Darragh and Miller were particularly effective in their efforts to clear the puck and were largely reâ€" sponsible in keeping the score shert clear in that two mirutes.
