Dent Score Ssuth FTorcupin®, Jan. 3.â€"(Special to The Advance)>â€"Noranda‘s senior hocâ€" key team suffered its first defeat of the season here toâ€"night when the Porkies turned the copper miners away 2â€"0. It was fast ho throughout and only the fine backâ€"ch>cking of the Porâ€" cupine forwards and the hard hititng dofence held the sensational Noranda forward line in check. M A first period showed the big crowd how evenly matched the tw« teams were and it was not until half way through the sezond that Huggins and Dent paired up for the first scorâ€" ing play of the night. The second goal was scored in the third by Dent. ETT 9 The Porkies opened the game with ai swift attack that almost resu‘lted in a~ goal by Cattarello. Play ‘swept back: and forth with great speid, neither team se>ming able to make any headâ€" way against the hard checking of the other. About midway through the pericd Kilby MacDonald got right in on Esseltine only to have the Porcupine goalie pull off a brilliant save to ke>p his nets clear. Porkies Break Deadlock At the opening of the second period both tcams tried hard to break the j deadlock and both goalies had their | troubles in keeping the seore down. Porkies outlasted the Noranda team : in the effort to get the advantage and about half way through the frame Dent} broke away from his own blue line and was flanked on the way down by Hugâ€" gins.. Dent carried the puck down past centrc: ics, drew the defence and passâ€" ced to Huggins who with only Evans to beat. made no mistake and the red light flashed to put Porkies one up. The coal stirred Noranda into action Curlers Have Big Evening At Season‘s First Bonspiel! sarly one hundréed and twentyâ€"five enthusiastic curlers turned out for the opsningz bonspiel of ‘the season at the club on Friday evening when a fourâ€" endcr competition took place.
