Early in the year, Gold Eagle Gold Minr#gs, completed a series of holes directed to intersect the southerâ€" ly continuation of the ore zone being developed by ~McKenzie Red Lake Mines. While some values were enâ€" countered, this work yielded inconcluâ€" sive results. Surface trenching in the northeast portion of the property has exposed a fracture zone, 1 to 5 feet wide. in â€"granodiorite. This zone strikes N. 63 W. and has been traced for about 900 feet. It contains branchâ€" ing veins and stringers of quartz that dip 65 degrees to 70 degrees SW. In one section, about 160 feet in length, there is considerable visible gold. The vein matter consists of two ages of quartz containing pyrite, aresenopyrite, galena, zincblende, and ankerite. A mining plant is now being assembled preparatory to underground exploration of this deposit. 1 Considerable trenching and some diaâ€" ! mondâ€"drilling have been done on the: holdings of McCuaig Red Lake Gold At McKenzie Red Lake Mines a mill having an initial capacity of 125 tons is being erected and preparations are being made to install hydroâ€"electric power. In July, the management estiâ€" mated that 90,000 tons of ore averaging 0435 ounces gold per ton over drift width had been indicated by underâ€" ground exploration to that time. Since then drifting northward on the 350â€"foot level has extended the ore shoot in the main shear zone. Just north of the winze the drift encountered a quartz vein, 1 to 5 feet in width, that strikes in a westerly direction and appears to dip about 50° N. This vein has been drifted on for about 150 feet, and preâ€" liminary sampling of this section inâ€" dicates that it may yield commercial values over a mining width. The winze which was sunk from the 250â€"foot level in the ore zone, is now being extended below the 350â€"foot level. The principal ore shoots consist Of goldâ€"bearing quartz stringers‘*‘and lenses closely asâ€" sociated with a narrow quartz porâ€" phyry dike that lies within a shear zone, 10 to 25 feet wide, in granodiorite. to $3.50 per ton (with premium), and costs (befOore taxes, depreciation, and preâ€"operating writeâ€"offs) were approxiâ€" mately $1.85 per ton. During the past year the shaft was extended to a depth of 1,500 feet. Lateral workings have been driven eastward on the 875 and 1,000â€"foot levels beyond the present limits of stoping. On the 1.000â€"foot level, about 1,000 feet east of the shaft, several ore sections striking at an angle to the main ore zone were encountered. These have only been partially explorâ€" ed, but indications are that they will yield ore somewhat higher in grade than mine average. Exploration on the 875â€"foot level is being carried on with the object of determining if these shoots extend up to that horizon. Stoping operations are well advanced between the 1,000â€"foot and 750â€"foot levels west of the shaft between the 1,315â€"foot and 1,000â€"foot levels east of the winze. y *# % 18) We Durin ended 1 work remium), and reciation, and were approxiâ€" uring the past This zone been traced iins branchâ€" quartz that es SW. Several quartz veins ha ing, in places, a combined width of : feet occur within this zone. Explor: On the Redcrest property, fc known as the Rowan Discoverm On the Paulore property, at the west end of Martin bay, surface exploration has exposed several narrow quartz veins sparsely mineralized with sulâ€" phidges and a rusty, pyritic zone conâ€" taining a little chalcopyrite and native A INnlerseCtSs a Dand oOI Chioriteâ€"carâ€" benate schist, enclosed in granite. The vein has been stripped for a distance of 60 feet and this section is reported to carry commercial values in gold over a width of 4 feet. The shaft has reachâ€" ed a depth of 150 feet, and it is probâ€" able that lateral exploration of the vein will be carried on at that level. On the Soume group, located about a mile north of the west end of Martin bay, a quartz vein carrying visible gold has been traced by surface workings for a distance of 600 feet. The vein ocâ€" cut‘s in greenstone, strikes N. 65 degress to 70 dGdegrees W., and dips steeply n width and contains, in addi juartz, some pyrrhotite, chalc« galena, and calcite. phyre dikes that strike approximately | parallel to the schistosity of the adâ€" Jjoining greenstones. The mineralized section consists of silicified and carâ€" ibonatized greenstone containing quartz i stringers and finely disseminated pyâ€" rite, arsenopyrite, jamesonite, and visible gold. Exploration to date has indicated the presence of a large tonâ€" nage of lowâ€"grade material, of which the average gold content can only be |ascertained by further development bulk sampling. | _ In the central part of Dome township considerable trenching and some shalâ€" \low and diamondâ€"drilling have been done by Rahill Gold Mines in the ‘northwest corner of claim No. 6,687. |\ This work exposed an area of greenâ€" |stone cut by quartz porphyry and jlampmpk‘]yre dikes and containing | rustyâ€"weathering bodies of ferrodoloâ€" mite. Auriferous gash veins composed 1 of quartz and tourmaline were encountâ€" ‘ ered in some of the workings. On the ! | | mainland to the east of MacKenzie Island some deep drilling is being done f to explore the projected intersection of [ the principal veinâ€"bearing zones on | the. Gold Eagle and McKenzie Red Lake | properties. â€" Some surface exploration and shallow _drilling was done during the summer on } the holdings of South McKenzie Island Mines Limited.. This work exposed a fconsidera-b!e thickness of sediments along the western fiank of the granite mass that underlies most of MacKenzie Island. Although a few narrow quartz veins were encountered, no discOveries of commercial importance have, as yet, been reported on this property. Near the south shore of MacKenzie Isiand, on claim No. 11,418 of the Chisâ€" holm group, stripping and crossâ€"trenchâ€" ing have uncovered several sections of vein quartz within a distance of 350: feet along a fracture zone in granodlo-, rite. The most continuous exposure is‘ about 65 feet in lefigth. It strikes N: 16 degrees W., dips about 75 degrees E., and ranges from 12 to 26 inches in width. In the other exposures the vein matter ranges from a fraction of an inch to 3 feet in width. In places, the quartz contains visible gold and a little pyrite, chalcopyrite, and ankerite. Some shallow drilling has been done in the central portion of the zone. To the northwest of the Howey, Red Lake Gold Shores Mines is sinking a shaft in the vicinity of a quartz vein that intersects a band of chloriteâ€"carâ€" conten than ¢ 65 deg been t which adjoins McKenzie Red ‘Lake Mines on the east, has recently been acquired by Hollinger, and preparations are being made to carry on underground exploration of the showings. These consist of lenticular bodies of ferroâ€" dolomite and silicified zones lying withâ€" in an area of carbonatized pillow lava. Widespread distribution of gold has been indicated by surface workings and diamondâ€"drilling within an area 2,000 feet in length from east to west and several hundred feet in width. Recent trenching near the central portion of this area has uncovered a silicified zone, 8 to 25 feet wide, in which the gold content appears to be more consistent than elsewhere. This zone strikes N. 65 daegrees to 70 degrees W. and has been traced for about 200 feet.
